Kenny 'Babyface' Edmonds has officially filed a response in his divorce with his estranged wife, Nicole Pantenburg, asking for joint custody of their children.
According to legal documents obtained by The Blast, the 'Every Time I Close My Eyes' singer filed a request to get joint custody of his daughter -- Peyton. In the filing, Babyface says he is willing to pay spousal and child support to his wife.
But, one thing is very clear. The singer is asking that the court recognized the couple's 'prenuptial agreement' which outlines how much she will get per month. In this case, Babyface has a sizable collection of master recordings and music that would fall under the agreement.
"Separate property assets and debts per Prenuptial Agreement," the document states.
Amicable Split
In the filing, Babyface says the former couple was married on May 17, 2014, and separated on October 15, 2020. We broke the story, Nicole filed for divorce several weeks back -- and the couple issued a joint statement.
"After much thought and with great sadness, we have decided to end our marriage. We continue to care and have respect for one another and share eternal love for our daughter and her well-being,” it reads. Adding, "We ask for personal privacy for ourselves and our daughter as we navigate these new steps as a family.”
As we reported, the former couple started dating back in 2007 and shortly afterward welcomed Peyton Nicole. Babyface's estranged wife is famous in her own right, starring in the 1990s sitcom, 'Moesha.' She is also best friends -- and former backup dancer to Janet Jackson. The couple got married in an exquisite ceremony that included famous guests like Oprah Winfrey.
The 'Love Of My Life'
Babyface previously spoke highly of his estranged wife in an interview, saying, "The big love of my life. That’s a hard question because there’s a lot of love in my life. There’s my wife, Nikki."
He continued, "There’s my daughter and my boys. A couple of years ago I lost my mom, and when someone that important leaves this world, it leaves you with this feeling of wanting to grab every moment with those that are around you, and appreciate it.”
It should be noted, there is nothing that indicates this is a nasty divorce -- and asking for joint custody and following a prenup are very common things in a legal case like this one. Plus, Babyface has been down this road in the past. The famous singer was previously married and shares custody of his two songs, Brandon and Dylan.
The case is ongoing.
