All Jenelle Evans‘ mother, Barbara Evans, wants is to see her grandson, Jace.
The reality star and her mother have reached another height in their tense relationship as the latter is now accusing the former of a lack of access to her grandson, who is currently undergoing treatment in a mental health institution.
Jenelle Evans’ mom recently filed for emergency custody of Jace after an upsetting incident where he allegedly threatened to harm himself with a gun, prompting his subsequent admission to a treatment center.
Jenelle Evans’ Mother Claims Her Grandson Is Struggling In Treatment
The 72-year-old is accusing her daughter of cutting her out of Jace’s life, as she cannot speak with him directly or visit him in the facility. Barbara revealed that she has made it a duty to call the facility every morning and night, asking the staff to relay her message to Jace.
She also expressed her undying love for the teen and urged him to hang in there, as she believes he is struggling without communicating with her. As for Jenelle, TMZ confirmed that she has been keeping in touch with her son and even visited him at the facility last week.
Barbara’s complaints came after the judge denied her request for emergency custody, where she got another hearing slated for next week. The reality star’s mom and grandson’s dad, Andrew Lewis, are expected to come forward with evidence during the hearing.
How Did The Reality Star’s Son End Up In Treatment
Jace was checked into the facility after the threatening episode on February 22. Law enforcement agents were reportedly called to Barbara’s home in North Carolina for a troubled teen disturbance.
As noted by The Blast, about seven officers had responded to the property, as his grandmother later explained that Jace wielded a gun and threatened to kill himself alongside his grandmother. There were also concerns of substance abuse because Jace had reportedly been drinking and using drugs before the incident happened.
As for her initial emergency request for temporary custody of Jace, sources shared that she made the move behind Jenelle’s back, although the motion was trashed almost immediately.
Jenelle Evans Had Earlier Blamed Barbara Evans For Jace’s Bad Behavior
Last August, Jenelle made some revelations during a Q&A session with her fans on social media, where she blasted her mother for the excessive behavior of her son. In her words, “It’s the way he was raised with my mom, I had to rewire myself out of being too reactive in situations and learn to sit and listen.”
She explained that her journey through life consisted of her intentionally breaking free from the toxic hold her upbringing with Barbara had on her life. Jenelle was saddened at the fact that her son now had to suffer the same fate due to the same pattern exhibited by Barbara.
Jenelle’s mother took custody of Jace shortly after his birth in 2009, essentially raising her grandson till 2023. As for the reality star, she welcomed two more children, first with her ex-fiancé Nathan Griffith and her youngest child with her now-divorced husband, David Eason.
The 34-Year-Old Slammed Her Mother And Sister After Her Son’s Gun Pulling Episode
As soon as Jenelle got reports of Jace threatening to end his and Barbara’s lives, she hopped on X to give her mother and sister, Ashleigh Evans, a piece of her mind. The reality star tagged her mother her enemy, noting that she has wasted her empathy on Barbara all these months due to her health condition.
As reported by The Blast, she also came for her sister, advising people to take her words with a pinch of salt because she has a medical issue. Jenelle claimed that Ashleigh also lost custody of her son, which means she is not in the right position to cast any judgment on her. “Imagine you being the toxic one, cut you off to protect myself and my kids, then all hell breaks loose. That seems to be the common theme amongst everyone lately in my life,” the MTV alum concluded in her rant.
Ashleigh also came online to poke holes in the story of Jace pulling a gun on Barbara, claiming that it was untrue and very much fabricated by Jenelle to sway the public to her side. Ashleigh added that the police never found a gun in her mother’s house, and Jenelle only spun such a false story because she was angry.
Jenelle Evans Addressed Leaked Text Messages Between Her And Jace
The MTV alum reacted to the case of her son leaking a heated conversation between them over her ex-husband, Eason, last year. According to her, her first child released the messages to get his revenge after she disciplined him.
She noted that the messages were cropped and posted to make her look bad because he was upset due to her setting boundaries and rules, just like any parent. While the TV star was hurt about the actions of her son, she understood that they came from a place of struggle. Jenelle revealed that the incident can also be blamed on a series of medical diagnoses Jace had been battling in recent times, which had been equally challenging for her.
The former reality TV star seized the moment to reassure the public about her commitment to making sure her son gets better while vowing to provide every resource he may need to achieve that. Before her split from Eason, Jenelle’s former husband made waves for allegedly hitting her son, although the former MTV star claimed it never happened.
