When one door closes for Dwight Howard, another opens for his ex, Tiffany Render.

The NBA alum’s former girlfriend gets ready to strike amid his ongoing personal crisis by asking the court to approve her important custody request regarding their minor daughter, Layla.

Dwight Howard is currently battling drug usage allegations from his estranged wife, Amber Howard, after a back-and-forth at their Georgia mansion, where she was locked out of the home by the former basketballer.

Render headed to court with an important request that the court grant her temporary custody of her 15-year-old daughter. It comes nearly two years after the court granted Howard primary custody of Layla in 2024 following a heated legal process between the former lovers.

Render is claiming in her new filing that their daughter is currently emotionally distressed about making a return to her father’s residence. She added that her demand for an emergency hearing is to inform the court about the urgency of her daughter’s situation and how risky it may be for her emotions if things drag on further.

A source close to Howard, however, stressed that the timing of the filing shows that “Tiffany has been working in conjunction with Amber to get negative publicity for Dwight.” The insider continued to TMZ that nothing in the police report is scandalous enough to spike concerns for Layla in the way Render has worded it in her petition.

Last year, Render broke her silence on Howard’s relationship with their daughter, which was nothing to write home about due to his refusal to give her a chance to spend time with the minor. Render and Howard welcomed Layla in 2010, two years after they started dating, but broke up soon after due to incompatibility. The Blast noted that despite their split, Render claimed that they maintained a cordial friendship, which provided her a sense of security.

Unfortunately, the athlete developed some habits over time that proved he had different plans for their relationship. Render relocated to Howard’s home in Atlanta after her marriage to another man failed. During this period, she revealed that there were still some flirtatious relations going on between herself and the athlete. She added that she would spend a few days at his house until one morning when he asked her to leave the home, and then he hit her with a child support reduction petition a day later.

Upon making contact with Howard, Render stated that he claimed it was a mistake from his legal team, but the case was not withdrawn; rather, they proposed an offer of $2,000 monthly and later reviewed it to $3,000. She also noted that the athlete would only come to see their daughter occasionally due to his packed calendar. In her words: “He was never a great father. I made excuses about it to our daughter.”

The 40-year-old reportedly approached Render with the increased offer if she moved into his Georgia home with their daughter, rather than buy a home. Render noted that she obliged, and things stayed normal until Howard left for an overseas job, and his employer approached her with questions about when she would be leaving.

The timing seemingly coincided with when Howard would have custody of Layla, which meant Render would be leaving the home without her daughter. Render shared that she still took the risk, moved to Florida, and her attempts to reach out to Howard about their daughter became futile.

She had to drive down to Georgia to pick up Layla when it was time for her to get custody, and on that journey, their daughter had taken a video of herself crying and sent it to Howard, who used it against her in his bid to get full custody. The NBA alum claimed his ex permitted their daughter to appear on reality television and raised concerns over inappropriate TikTok videos.

Amber Howard Called The Cops On The NBA Alum

The Blast stated on March 12 that a dispatcher had responded to a distress call from Amber, who shared that she had been locked out of her home by her husband, who is a former NBA star.

According to recordings from the call, Howard had left her standing outside in the rain after a brief argument where he basically used her as an outlet to cool off the edge from losing custody of his daughter.

She explained that she had to break into the compound via the side gate, causing discomfort to their neighbors. Howard’s actions reportedly come after the cops had repeatedly warned him about the habit of locking his wife out in the past, describing it as illegal.

Amber clarified that neither alcohol nor drugs were involved in that episode, but she was tired of sleeping in her car after every outburst. The former basketball player’s estranged wife had also hopped on social media to confess that she had been covering up the athlete’s heavy drug usage for a while now, under the guise of keeping her family together.

A few days ago, a former employee, who had worked with the former NBA superstar for three months last year, sued him for emotional distress and unpaid wages. The former staff, identified as Terrence Hudson, claimed that he worked for Howard and his estranged wife as a domestic manager, home security guard, and a personal assistant.

He revealed that the initial agreement was to pay him $2,000 weekly for the job done, but the promise was followed by a series of irregular payments summing up to $8,137.54 throughout his employment period.

He added that he even sent a certified letter to Howard demanding payments for his services, but his request was disregarded and unattended to. In the December lawsuit, Hudson made a demand of $30,702.06 to complete his owed wages, alongside another $10,000 for emotional distress.
