Dwight Howard sinks deeper in the pool of legal troubles.
The former NBA star recently got slammed with a lawsuit from someone who claims to have been his assistant for about three months last year. This case joins the lengthy list of court deals the player already has, from the tumultuous custody battles to the ongoing divorce from his estranged wife, Amber Howard.
While Dwight Howard’s personal life is being tossed amid the wave of legal woes, his professional life has not been spared from the drama. He hung out his Lakers jersey and has stressed that a return to the court is nowhere in sight for him.
Dwight Howard Accused Of Unpaid Wages

Divorce, custody battles, and now charges on the grounds of emotional distress all hang above Howard’s head. Someone who claims to be the ex-NBA superstar’s former assistant is suing for emotional distress and unpaid wages. The plaintiff, identified as Terrence Hudson, claims that he worked for Howard and his estranged wife as a domestic manager, home security guard, and the Basketballer’s personal assistant.
He alleges in the obtained court documents that he worked for the Howards from June 25, 2025, to October 8, 2025. According to TMZ, Hudson also claims that he agreed to $2,000 per week in pay, but claims he only received “inconsistent payments totaling $8,137.54” throughout his employment in the filings submitted in December 2025.
The former assistant further alleges that he sent a certified letter to Howard demanding payments, but his request was turned down. As per his December filing, he is asking for $30,702.06 for unpaid wages and $10,000 for emotional distress. Everything he is requesting for sums up to $40,702.06.
The Former Basketballer Was Previously Sued By Other Employees

While Hudson’s case is making headlines, it does not make history, as Howard has been slammed for shortening his staff previously. He was taken to court in 2020 by two former female employees. They each laid a $50,000 suit against him with claims of unpaid wages and damages. The suit did not hold water, as the charges were dismissed in 2023.
More legal drama took off with his relationship with Amber. Howard initially filed for divorce from the media personality, telling the court that their marriage is “irretrievably broken” and there is “no hope of reconciliation.”
The lovebirds tied the knot in January 2025 and called it quits less than six months later. The pro basketballer filed to end the marriage in June 2025, and his estranged lover did the same in July. The new legal drama comes amid the recent divorce filing by Amber on March 9, 2026.
Dwight Howard Is Packed With Family Drama
Amber’s relationship with the former Lakers star has been on the rocks for a while. Many accusations are flying both ways, from substance abuse to theft, and these have previously made headlines.
Amber made public claims on social media, stating that Howard was suffering from drug addiction and had allegedly asked his son to lie about his drug use. She further claimed that during visits from Child Protection Services, she was forced to take his side, as the marriage had left her in a dangerous position.
The Blast also noted that before filing for divorce from Amber on March 9, Howard called the police, accusing his estranged lover of stealing expensive items like his phone and wedding rings from his Georgia mansion. The father of five told the authorities that the theft took place while he left his home to pick up one of his children.
The Former NBA Star Is Not Only Saying Goodbye To Relationships

Apart from calling it quits in his personal relationship, the pro athlete put an end to his professional relationship with the famous basketball team. He had three separate years with the famous Lakers team: 2012, 2019, and 2021, and now he has closed that chapter of his life.
While speculations swirled about his return to the team, Howard clarified that fans should squash the hopes of seeing him return in the yellow and purple signature jersey. The Blast notes that the whispers rose after a cryptic post he shared on X.
According to Howard, his focus has shifted to spending time with his kids and exploring other options. He, however, shared that the Lakers are not calling him back to play anymore. “I’m always ready, but there’s more to life than basketball,” he told outlets.
Dwight Howard Recently Mourned The Death Of His Pet

Howard got vulnerable with his fanbase last year as he expressed his desire for justice in the murder of his dog, Sunday. He extended his pursuit, asking fans to help him hunt down the culprit. The NBA star shared cute photos and videos of his late dog expressing his pain and grief over his longtime pet’s death.
“From the moment I got you, Sunday, you were more than just my dog…You were my peace. My protector. A reminder of everything beautiful and calm, just like those early Sunday mornings,” he wrote in the emotional post. Reflecting on their loving relationship, he recalled moments of welcome hugs and kisses he shared with his late dog, sharing that she would often wait for him at the door.
He then detailed his fans with information surrounding her death. He asked that anyone who knew about a Belgian Malinois that was hit by a car on June 18, 2025, in Suwanee, Georgia, should reach out to him. The Blast noted that many fans were touched by the former NBA star’s pain, sending solemn messages of condolence.
Will Dwight Howard ever see the end of court cases?
