The Hip-Hop star has lost one of his close friends and a longtime colleague in the industry. Lord Sear, the iconic DJ who worked closely with the award-winning rapper on a number of projects, has passed away at 53.
Eminem’s world has been rocked by several deaths recently. His maternal grandmother, Betty Hixson, passed away a few days ago after a prolonged battle with breast cancer.
Another Funeral To Attend On Eminem’s List

Eminem, whose birth name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III, has suffered another tragic loss of a loved one. The rapper posted a tribute to his close buddy, Lord Sear, recalling the good times they spent together. “Sear was one of the greatest people to be around. I will never forget how he made me laugh on our tour together,” he wrote in a post on X.
He shared a group photograph featuring the legendary DJ, himself, as well as other industry personnel in what seems to be a SiriusXM studio. Playing in the background was an excerpt from one of their episodes on Shade45.
“Our time on @Shade45 together was always some of my favorite interviews,” Eminem noted. Concluding his post, the rapper penned that he would miss Lord Sear, stating that he made the world a better place before adding “Rest in peace Lil Trey” and tagging his official X account to the tribute.
Fans Are Sharing In The Musician’s Grief

Many fans sent their condolences and sympathized with Eminem as he navigated through the painful loss. “Man, today must be a tough day for you, king. While several followers enquired about the cause of his death, which is yet to be released, amid advising Eminem to stay strong, others simply flooded the comments with hearts and flying dove emojis.
“So sorry for your loss, Marshall, sounds like there is a lot of loss in the world. Grief is a real B-tch, stay on course, make them all proud like you always have. Keep your peace and give yourself the time to grieve properly, which can be hard these days when the world moves so fast. Much Love to you all,” a fan added.
Who Was Lord Sear?
Lord Sear was an iconic DJ in the world of hip-hop who also worked closely with Eminem on his radio channel. The “Mockingbird” singer described him as more than just a voice on the radio. Their relationship had grown past work, and they had become more like family to each other. In the 2000s, Lord Sear joined SiriusXM satellite radio, co-hosting “The All Out Show with Rude Jude” on Eminem’s Shade 45 channel.
He later started hosting his own program on SiriusXM, “The Lord Sear Special,” where he remained until his passing. The late DJ had worked for the station since its inception in 2004 and had worked closely with Eminem right from the early 2000s. He even joined the “Lose Yourself” singer on the Anger Management Tour. According to TMZ, the late 53-year-old rose to fame after getting noticed as a DJ in the 90s while he was on tour with popular rapper Kurious.
He then landed a gig as a central voice of WKCR’s iconic“Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Show,” and has since become one of the most recognizable radio voices of his time. Apart from being a DJ and voice on the radio, Lord Sear created his own rap music, appeared on different albums, and lent his voice to video games such as “Grand Theft Auto III” and “Grand Theft Auto IV”.
The Award-Winning Rapper Recently Lost His Grandmother

Eminem was still in mourning for the death of his grandmother, who died just a little over a year after his mother, before the news of his friend’s death hit. The rapper’s grandmother, Hixson, passed away at the age of 87 on March 10, 2026.
The Blast shares that both Eminem’s grandmother and mother, Debbie Nelson, battled with cancer before their deaths. Hixson passed away in her home in Missouri, reportedly due to complications from breast cancer. Nelson, on the other hand, kicked the bucket after a battle with advanced lung cancer at a hospital in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Eminem had a complicated relationship with his mother, who had him when she was just eighteen years old. They were at odds for a long while but reportedly made peace before her death. With his grandmother, there was no record of any interaction after she publicly condemned him during her interview with London’s Mirror newspaper in 2000.
Eminem’s Family Dynamics

Eminem’s father, Marshall Mathers Jr., abandoned him with his mom when he was just a baby. They had no other children together, but years later, Nelson had another son, Nathan, with her then-boyfriend, Fred Samra. The family struggled to stay together to no avail, and when Nathan was 8, he was taken into foster care.
His relationship with his brother, who was in and out of foster homes, became strained, although Eminem admitted to trying to get custody of Nathan when he was 20. “I tried to apply for full custody when I was 20, but I didn’t have the means, “he said in a previous interview. The rapper finally got custody of his half-sibling when he was 23 and has taken him under his wing since then.
Nathan shared that Eminem played a vital role in his life, inspired him to make music, and was the best role model for him. As shared by The Blast, the star has been vocal about his fractured relationship with his mother over the years, hinting at issues of substance abuse. They later put their beef to rest shortly before her death, and the singer apologized to his mother on his popular track “Headlights.”
