Eminem has suffered another family loss!
The rapper’s maternal grandmother, Betty Hixson, has reportedly passed on, little over a year after his mother, Debbie Nelson, died from advanced lung cancer in 2024.
Eminem’s and his mother’s sides of the family have shared a really complicated relationship, especially with his late mother, who once sued him for $11 million for defamation of character.
Eminem’s Grandmother Dies At 87 After Cancer Battle

Betty reportedly died at her home in Missouri due to complications from breast cancer on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. The rapper was reportedly not in good terms with his grandmother when she died, and their last known interaction was when she publicly condemned her grandson during her interview with London’s Mirror newspaper in the year 2000.
In the interview, Betty had confessed that neither she nor his mother at the time could wrap their heads around what happened to Eminem and how he changed from being a caring person to someone who does not give a hoot about his loved ones.
As shared by TMZ, Betty died nearly a year after her daughter, Eminem’s mother, died in December 2024 after a battle with advanced lung cancer. The rapper’s grandmother was 87 when she died, and she had expressed her disbelief in the interview, stating: “I can’t believe this is my Marshall, the same boy who used to come and sit on my lap.”
The Rapper Lost His Mother To Advanced Lung Cancer

Eminem’s mother died about three years after she publicly congratulated him for earning a spot in the 2022 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. This gesture marked a break in their very public estrangement, which had gone on for decades and had been duly documented by the rapper in his musical projects.
The Blast noted that in 2013, Eminem had extended a white flag to his mother in his song “Headlights,” apologizing for his tone and harsh words over the years, while acknowledging their painful journey. Nelson had revealed her diagnosis in September 2024, informing the public that she had very little time left.
She unfortunately died a few months later in the hospital at St. Joseph, Missouri. Eminem and Nelson’s relationship was famously tainted with accusations of substance abuse on his part, towards his mother. The rapper’s mother birthed him at 18, raising him alone after his father left the picture.
Eminem’s Daughter Credited Motherhood For Helping Her Understand His Struggles Better
Last June, The Blast shared that two months after welcoming her first child with her husband, Evan McClintock, she opened up about literally attaining a new level of understanding and appreciation for her father’s love and struggles with fame.
Hailie Jade McClintock confessed that, having been in the spotlight for a very long time due to the famous nature of her father, she has learned to find a balance between her private and public life. In her words, “Over time, I’ve come to understand the struggle my father faced, wanting to protect our privacy while also feeling proud and wanting to celebrate his kids.”
Hailie continued that her becoming a mom means that while she wants to share news that means a lot to her as a parent, she also feels a responsibility to keep certain parts of her life behind the scenes. Eminem’s admiration and love for his daughter were not a hidden fact, with tracks like “Mockingbird” and “Hailie’s Song” dedicated to her.
They also attended his 2022 “Rock & Roll Hall of Fame” induction ceremony together, wearing matching leather jackets. The duo also toured together when Hailie was younger, and they have remained etched in her memory.
The Record Executive Got Vulnerable With His Drug Addiction Issues

Eminem’s journey through fame has also witnessed him being utterly honest about being deep in the abyss of substance abuse. The rapper had explained that dealing with fame and all the attention that came with it sent him down a dangerous, dark alley.
Eminem’s relationship with prescription pills began in the late 90s and gradually got worse as his career advanced. He confessed to ingesting up to 60 Valium and 30 Vicodin pills daily while relying heavily on Ambien to sleep. Also, he used methadone, a synthetic opioid he mistook for a weaker painkiller.
After a fatal 2007 episode, the rapper got clean in 2008, crediting his new life to a rehabilitation counselor, an intense exercise routine, and the support of his loved ones, including his adorable daughter. Eminem has now been sober for nearly two decades, often celebrating milestones on social media with his AA anniversary chips.
Eminem Was Rumored To Be In A Romantic Relationship With His Stylist

The award-winning rapper’s last marriage was to Kim Scott from 1999 to 2001, when they finalized their divorce. They remarried again in 2006, but ended things that same year. Last year, sources shared that he has been dating his hairstylist, Katrina Malota, who has worked with him for years.
Malota is a stylist and makeup artist based in Michigan and has been responsible for his grooming for music videos and photoshoots. Although Malota’s social media footprints have been very controlled, she did leave behind a shoutout to her rumored partner for his 2020 Oscar performance, describing him as “her local hometown genius.”
The rapper had reportedly battled with deep trust issues for a long time, as sources close to him revealed that his bad experiences in past relationships left him scarred for life.
Sending Eminem love and light through his grief!
