25-year-old Maroney, who retired from professional gymnastics in 2016, offered up some solid advice for everyone competing for a spot on the Tokyo team.

"My best advice is compete like you will never touch that floor again! Don’t let any nervousness hold you back, and go perform like you’ve trained.
I know you’ve all have had incredible days in the gym, that no one but you, and your coach has seen!! Tonight is really the night to bring that energy, and confidence."

She also made sure to remind the athletes that, "You’ll be inspiring thousands of little girls tonight, just like you used to look up to the older girls before you!!"

McKayla Maroney is definitely feeling the FOMO with not competing this year, explaining "Olympic Trials was my favorite competition of all time.

I was in my favorite leotard, with USA sketched in crystals on my hip, in the best shape of my life, competing with the best gymnasts in the United States!!"

Although Maroney won't be competing in the upcoming Olympic games, there are some other stars who fans will remember from prior Olympics ... including gymnastics superstar Simone Biles.

Biles is obviously the fan-favorite and leader of the entire Olympic team. Her trial scores are way ahead of the other hopefuls, so it's basically about filling in the rest of the squad behind the gymnastics icon.
