Kevin Spacey‘s career essentially went down the drain when multiple men started bringing up sexual assault allegations against him, including actor Anthony Rapp came out and accused Spacey of making a sexual advancement on him when he was 14.
In the wake of those accusations, Spacey apologized to Rapp and then came out as gay or bi-sexual. Saying in a statement at the time that,
“[He] had relationships with both men and women. I have loved and had romantic encounters with men throughout my life, and I choose now to live as a gay man.”
The Rapp story is relevant not only because it opened the flood gates and accusations against Spacey started flowing in more rapidly. Also because he was said to be joining the lawsuit that a man under the pseudonym C.D. had against Spacey.
It is this lawsuit that is likely to be dismissed over the fact that C.D. does not want to reveal his true identity. This is something that the judge required to be able to proceed with the case in court.
In a letter to the court, the attorneys for C.D. mentioned that their client had no intentions of revealing his identity. This presumably to avoid the fallout the could take place in his personal life if he were to go public with the accusation.
His lawyers mentioned, “As we had previously informed the Court, C.D. believes he is unable to withstand the scrutiny and intrusion into his life if his identity is revealed in this matter,”
Having this lawsuit cleared does not put Spacey in the clear though.
With Rapp and C.D. there are at least 15 other men that have brought up allegations against Spacey. He is also under investigation from British authorities because six men have also made allegations against him there.
Some of the accusers include Richard Dreyfuss’ son Harry and a former member of the Norwegian Royal Family, Ari Behn. He was more specific with his accusations saying that Spacey had groped him under a table at the Nobel Peace Prize concert in 2007. Therefore, having this case dismissed is a small victory, but nowhere near the end of his troubles.
It’s too early to see if the dismissal of this particular case will affect Spacey’s career in a positive way. Although he still made an appearance in a movie that was realesed in 2018 his career has been dormant since 2017.
He was certainly at the peak of his career with his starting role in House of Cards and even hosted the Tony awards in 2017. When Rapps allegations came to light and Spacey replied by coming out his career virtually ended. Taking with it, one of the most popular series of the last few years!
