When on her podcast, "Are You a Charlotte?," the actress revealed that a "very successful" actor once ghosted her after she lent him $5,000.

"I think this was before 'Sex and the City,' maybe between 'Melrose [Place]' and 'Sex and the City,' or maybe when I was on 'Melrose.' I don’t know," Davis recalled.

At the time, she was dating an "out-of-work actor" whom she described as "very talented." During their relationship, Davis noticed alarming bill notices at his home, threatening to shut off his electricity. She also remembered the man wrecking his motorcycle, his primary mode of transportation for auditions.

"And I was like, ‘What’s happening?’ And then, I think he wrecked his motorcycle, which is, like, how he got around to his auditions," she said. Sympathetic to his struggles, Davis offered to lend him $5,000, a decision she now regrets.

"Horrible mistake," she admitted. "But I just thought, like, I can help … I should help this guy. He’s so talented, which he is. Lend him money. I think it was all of $5,000 — a lot of money."

Davis revealed that the loan "changed the dynamic" between them, leading to an uncomfortable shift in their relationship. "He stopped calling," she said, describing how she eventually went to his apartment and knocked on his door. "His dog was in there, and I loved his dog, and I could hear his dog, but I was like, ‘Is he in there and pretending that he is not there?’”

The actor eventually called her back, questioning her impromptu visit. "And I was like, ‘Well, yes.’ … I felt so embarrassed. Like, being messy," Davis shared, adding that she wished for acknowledgment or closure from him. "I just would love some acknowledgment or whatever, which is kind of a fantasy."

Years later, Davis shared her experiences with adoption and the challenges of raising a child of a different race.

"I am White. I have lived in White privilege. I thought I knew before adopting my daughter that I was in White privilege, that I understood what that meant," she explained to People. "But until you actually have a child, which is like your heart being outside you, and that heart happens to be in a Brown body, and you have people who are actively working against your child, it’s hard. It fills me with terror."

She also discussed how she offers Gemma daily encouragement and positive affirmations, "I always tell her ... that her curls are beautiful, 'Your Black skin is beautiful. You're beautiful. You're powerful. You're a goddess.'"
