Aaron Carter made a significant sum of money during his lifetime, with the latest estimate of his estate reaching six figures.
The late singer, otherwise known as the younger brother of Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter, had several valuables and assets. A partial inventory and appraisal of these items was recently disclosed in court documents.
Aaron Carter was found dead in a bathtub in November 2022, leaving behind his siblings and son Prince, whom he welcomed with his ex-fiancée Melanie Martin.
Aaron Carter's Estate Worth Over $700K
Legal documents filed by the "I Want Candy" hitmaker's estate reveal his valuables and assets are worth an estimated $757,400 as of April 2023. However, the real value of Aaron's properties could be higher as this amount is for a partial appraisal.
The late singer's estate notes that other items need to be appraised, including Aaron's stored electronics, firearms, furniture, jewelry, vehicles, and royalty rights to music.
These assets, plus the $757,400 inventory, will leave Aaron's estate with a significant sum that will presumably be available to his son Prince. However, the amount left will be determined once creditors have been paid.
According to the documents obtained by TMZ, Wells Fargo filed a creditor's claim against Aaron's estate last January. It got paid in full and was withdrawn months before another creditor's claim was filed by the State of California Franchise Tax Board.
Aaron's Estate Was Slammed With Over $70K In Taxes
The State of California Franchise Tax Board came after Aaron's estate in May 2023. They initially filed a creditor's claim for a little over $17k; however, they increased the fee to $77,310.92. It is unclear if the late singer's estate has paid this bill.
Creditors may have to wait until the end of the year to receive payments, as Aaron's estate noted in its documents that it needs until then to sort out its finances.
The estate plans to estimate the entertainer's other assets within the time frame and determine whether there will be any distributions. Their filing comes a year after a lawsuit was filed against them for thousands in debt.
Aaron's Estate Owes Money To A Biohazardous Remediation Company
In court documents obtained by The Blast, Aaron and his ex-fiancée Melanie Martin were listed as defendants in a lawsuit filed by Sterile Pros LLC., a biohazardous remediation company.
The LLC dropped a mechanic lien claim on the Lancaster home the duo shared, noting it wanted payment for “labor, services, equipment, and/or materials upon the premises, and upon every estate or interest in such structures and improvements.”
The company explained that it needed reimbursement for the biohazardous remediation of three bedrooms, a master bathroom, and a closet. The sum amounted to $33,598.70, which it wanted Aaron's estate to pay for.
Aaron's Twin Sister Settled For A Third Party Administrator For His Estate
Aaron's twin sister, Angel Carter, abandoned her fight for his estate against his ex-fiancée in January 2023. The Blast shared that she opted for an out-of-court settlement with Martin barely a month after she started the legal battle.
Angel initially filed a request asking to be appointed as her late brother's estate administrator since Aaron died without leaving a will. She also appealed for control over his funds, disclosing his inheritance was worth $550,000.
However, she and Martin settled their differences by appointing a third party as the estate's administrator. Ultimately, the financial consultant, Aileen Federizo, was chosen for the position while Angel withdrew her petition.
Aaron Carter's Family Had Doubts About His Death
Aaron died on November 5, 2022, and was cremated on November 9. Months later, his family aired their doubts about his cause of death being accidental drowning after the L.A. County Coroner's Office told them there was no water in his lungs.
At the time, the Carter family claimed Aaron had a heated text exchange with a drug dealer in the hours leading up to his death. His ex-fiancée discovered the messages, noting the other party kept pushing the deceased for $800 for an "unknown substance."
Martin noted that Aaron communicated his lack of interest in the substance; however, the other party insisted he owed $800. The exchange allegedly ended after the late singer asked if he was being threatened to pay.
