Despite her flair for drama and reality TV experience, Tamar Braxton has no intentions of joining the "Real Housewives" franchise anytime soon.
In a surprising revelation, the singer spills the tea on why it would not fit her well, even though she received an offer for "Real Housewives of Atlanta."
Tamar Braxton Does Not Like The Format Of Filming For The 'Real Housewives'
Known for her starring roles on WE TV's "Braxton Family Values" and its spinoff series "Tamar & Vince," Braxton is a reality TV icon.
Given her extensive experience, many have wondered why she has not joined the cast of "Real Housewives of Atlanta." The reason, according to the 47-year-old, lies in the fundamental differences between the shows' formats.
Those who are familiar with Braxton's previous shows know that it is more focused on following the daily lives of her and her family members.
On the other hand, the "Real Housewives" franchise is structured around more staged events where the cast members argue with each other.
Speaking with Carlos King on his "Reality with the King" podcast, Braxton admitted to having "conversations" before stating emphatically:
"The truth is, like, there's just no way I'm going to sit in makeup and get a wig put on and get my face beat to argue with a bunch of b-tches about nothing."
The mother-of-one candidly explained, "I can't do it. What does that do for me in my life? Like, what's the argument? I can't."
The actress also pointed out her concern with the broader implications of reality TV, noting that the confrontational nature of "Real Housewives" did not align with her values or the type of content she wanted to be associated with. In her own words:
"At some point, you have to have responsibility for what you put on the TV screen. I don't want to be a part of that kind of television. I want to make feel-good, funny, good, relatable, epic television."
Braxton's Real Reason For Avoiding 'Real Housewives' Might Involve A Certain Cast Member
While the former "The Real" host's decision to avoid joining the popular franchise is driven by her desire to maintain a positive image on television, it is worth noting that her contentious relationship with a particular Housewife might also play a role.
Last year, during an appearance on "Watch What Happens Live," Braxton revealed she had an ongoing beef with "Real Housewives of Atlanta" star Kandi Burruss.
A caller on the show had asked Braxton which "RHOA" star and husband had allegedly "threatened" her. Host Andy Cohen speculated it might be Eva Marcille, to which Braxton immediately replied, "It was not."
After dismissing Cohen's second suggestion — Drew Sidora, Braxton confirmed that the person was a "full Housewife." This prompted the host to mention Burruss, which caused Braxton to smile and take a sip of her cocktail without directly responding.
Braxton Hinted At Conflict With Kandi Burruss And Her Husband
ICYMI, in December 2022, Braxton took to her Instagram Stories to share a cryptic revelation, hinting at a serious conflict with a cast member from "Real Housewives of Atlanta" and her husband.
Braxton, known for her candid nature, wrote, "I got a story … y'all wanna hear about it? I was threatened by a [peach] and they man…"
Suggesting a cover-up, she added, "It's funny to me that. No one said anything … maybe cause they don't want you to know who they REALLY are. I feel like if I did [what] they did … they would have told the WORLD."
The drama did not stop there. Braxton emphasized the seriousness of the situation by stating, "It's BEEF and it's a REAL BEEF cause yo HUSBAND stepped to me! Periodt!"
The 47-Year-Old Teased Possible Return Of 'Braxton Family Values'
Braxton, who recently explained why she would not be joining the "Real Housewives" franchise, almost made a comeback with her family in 2021.
At the time, The Blast reported that the TV personality was probed about the possibility of a new show. However, Braxton played coy but let a few key details slip.
"What if," Braxton humorously responded when the cameraman asked, "Recently you said, 'hey what if I was to tell you Braxton Family Values was coming back?'"
Unwilling to go without an answer, he added, "And then you said, 'but not on a foolish network.'"
Tamar Braxton Addressed Rumors Of Network Feud
Following the cameraman's question, Braxton took the opportunity to clear up misconceptions about the alleged "war" with WE TV.
She disclosed that while there was "sort of, but not" really a conflict, the main issue was her desire for her family to be portrayed accurately.
The "Dancing with the Stars" 2015 contestant further emphasized, "I want to have full control of a show, especially as a family."
