King Charles III has been hospitalized for an enlarged prostate, coincidentally at the same London Clinic where Kate Middleton is recovering from abdominal surgery.
Following Charles' arrival, he visited the princess, who is expected to stay up to 14 days at the clinic. Buckingham Palace has since expressed gratitude to well-wishers and highlighted Charles' positive impact on prostate health awareness.
Diagnosed on January 17, Charles canceled events, opting for rest and a corrective procedure.
King Charles III Admitted To Hospital For 'Scheduled Treatment'
King Charles III underwent a scheduled hospitalization on Friday for a "corrective procedure" addressing his enlarged prostate at the London Clinic, where the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, is recuperating from abdominal surgery.
Following his arrival at the clinic, Charles paid a visit to his daughter-in-law, who postponed her royal duties until after Easter.
Buckingham Palace issued an official statement expressing gratitude for well-wishes after Charles' hospitalization. The statement read: "The King was this morning admitted to a London hospital for scheduled treatment. His Majesty would like to thank all those who have sent their good wishes over the past week."
It added that the British monarch was "delighted to learn that his diagnosis is having a positive impact on public health awareness." However, it remains unknown how long Charles will remain in hospital.
Buckingham Palace Announced King Charles III's Enlarged Prostate Diagnosis
Charles III, who ascended to the throne 16 months ago, was first diagnosed with an "enlarged prostate" on January 17 during a routine check-up after he experienced "symptoms." After the diagnosis, he promptly canceled engagements and opted for rest ahead of the procedure.
Disclosing the King's medical condition, Buckingham Palace announced a scheduled medical procedure for Charles and the postponement of public events for his recovery.
In the statement, the Palace said: "In common with thousands of men each year, The King has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate. His Majesty's condition is benign, and he will attend hospital next week for a corrective procedure. The King's public engagements will be postponed for a short period of recuperation."
Queen Camilla, during a conversation with Lord Lieutenant of Aberdeen Dr. David Cameron on her visit to Aberdeen, also briefly acknowledged her husband's health and assured that the King is "looking forward to getting back to work" after the corrective procedure.
Kate Middleton Is Recovering At The London Clinic
Charles' health concern was revealed the same day Kensington Palace announced that Kate had undergone a planned abdominal surgery on January 16. However, it is understood that the princess' condition is not related to cancer.
According to reports, Prince William has visited his wife daily at the London Clinic while she recuperates. However, there are no reports of their three children joining him as the couple aims to maintain normalcy for Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Kate is anticipated to spend up to 14 days in the London Clinic before returning home to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor, with all royal engagements postponed until after Easter.
Why King Charles Chose To Share His Diagnosis And Kate Middleton Kept Hers A Secret
Although Kate and Charles' health scare was announced within hours of each other, there were major differences in the announcement.
Kensington Palace revealed Kate's "planned abdominal surgery" after its completion on January 17, while Buckingham Palace pre-announced King Charles' forthcoming surgery for an enlarged prostate.
A palace insider who spoke to People magazine explained the proactive approach with Charles, stating: "It was sensible to be more open about it, as otherwise, people might have thought the worst."
Charles' decision to share his diagnosis has had a significant impact, leading to a 1,000% surge in searches related to prostate enlargement on the U.K.'s National Health Service website.
On the other hand, Kensington Palace released a statement after Kate's surgery which read: "The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible and her wish that her personal medical information remains private."
An insider who spoke exclusively to Life & Style noted that the princess' procedure has "been kept so hush-hush that it could be more serious than they're letting on."
"But if anyone can bounce back quickly, it's Kate," the source added. Since King Charles' and Kate's hospitalization, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Meghan, have reportedly reached out to send their "best wishes" to their family members.
