A man was arrested after he reportedly tried to break into a New York City apartment building -- a residency in which pop icon and 'Love Story' singer Taylor Swiftlives.
An eyewitness reported the alleged break-in, claiming the individual either knocked or rang the doorbell to Taylor's apartment building, but the odd thing is that the man has been lurking around "for weeks."
Taylor Swift has a residency in New York City -- a place in which she has been spending a lot of time lately, since she is on a hiatus from her international Eras Tour.
When she is not attending NFL games to cheer on her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, she has been spotted out and about, going out to dinner at NYC restaurants or spending a night out on the town with her girlfriends.
Unfortunately, like many celebrities, the pop icon had an alleged stalker, who reportedly showed up at her NYC apartment building on Saturday, January 20, after lurking around for nearly a month.
Taylor Swift's Alleged Stalker Arrested After Lurking Around For Weeks
According to a spokesperson for the New York Police Department, a “disorderly person” was reported on Franklin Street on Saturday.
When police arrived on the scene, they "were informed that the individual attempted to open a door to a building at the location,” Page Six reports. The police would not identify the individual, nor confirm if he was actually trying to get into Taylor's residence.
After arriving at the scene, and after speaking to the man in question, he was placed in handcuffs. “It was all pretty civil,” an eyewitness said. “He didn’t resist. There was no yelling or anything.”
That same eyewitness stated that the individual was trying to open the door to the apartment building, though, again, police did not confirm this.
“I first saw him around 1 p.m. — he went up to Taylor’s door,” the eyewitnesses said, adding, “I’m not sure if he knocked or rang the doorbell.
According to a second eyewitness, the man was “lurking here for a month.”
Taylor Swift's Alleged Stalker 'Slept On The Stoop' and 'Made Everyone Uncomfortable'
The individual was reportedly “sleeping on the stoop, chain-smoking constantly, shouting, and generally making everyone uncomfortable," according to the source who spoke to Page Six. “When he arrived before Christmas, my husband asked what he was doing here, and he said, ‘I want to see Taylor,'” the pop icon's neighbor claimed. “He even had flowers at one point.”
The neighbor claims they called police “many times” but the police department did not take any action until the man tried to physically get into the building.
“I asked him to leave this morning, and he just stared at me, catatonic,” the neighbor told the outlet, adding that he is a "total nutcase.”
Photos of the suspect were obtained by Page Six, which you can see here.
It appears Taylor was in New York City at the time of the incident, though it is unclear if she was home at the time. A source did state that three of her bodyguards were seen standing around her apartment earlier on Saturday, just hours before the individual arrived.
According to police, the man has an active warrant out for his arrest. He has not yet been released.
