Donald Trump Breaks Silence On Melania's Mother's Death: 'An Incredible Woman'

Former President Donald Trump only has words of praise for his mother-in-law, Amalkja Knavs, following her demise.

The Republican presidential hopeful took to his social media platform to pay tribute to the septuagenarian who died after an undisclosed illness.

Amalija is survived by her husband, Viktor Knavs, her two daughters, Melania Trump and Ines Knauss, and her grandson, Barron Trump.

On his Truth Social page, Donald Trump penned a loving eulogy about his late mother-in-law, Amailja Knavs, who recently passed on at the age of 78. She died after battling with an undisclosed illness for some time.

"This is a very sad night for the entire Trump family!!!" Trump said hours after Amlija's death. "Melania's great and beautiful mother, Amalija, has just gone to a beautiful place in the sky."

The business mogul also heaped praises on Amalija, calling her "an incredible woman" and said she would be "missed far beyond words."

In addition to his post, Trump shared a throwback picture of himself and the septuagenarian. In the shot, the duo could be seen posing with wide smiles on their faces. It is unclear if the photo was taken when Amalja was already battling the illness.

Amalija passed away on Tuesday night while still being hospitalized for her undisclosed illness. Shortly after, Trump's wife and Amlija's daughter, Melania, took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to announce her death and pay tribute to her.

"It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved mother, Amalija," Melania wrote on the platform.

She added, "Amalija Knavs was a strong woman who always carried herself with grace, warmth, and dignity."

The mother-of-one also spoke on Amalija's love for her family and promised her legacy would live on through her surviving family members.

Melania further remarked, "She was entirely devoted to her husband, daughters, grandson, and son-in-law. We will miss her beyond measure and continue to honor and love her legacy."

Amalija leaves behind her husband, Viktor Knavs, their two daughters, Melania and Ines Knauss, and her grandson, Barron.

Before her death, Donald Trump confirmed speculations that Amalija was ill. He told supporters outside of his Palm Beach estate about her illness during the New Year celebration and wished her a speedy recovery at the time.

"Hopefully she'll be recovering," Trump said of his mother-in-law, per Page Six. "Hopefully, that'll be OK, but it's a tough one, a very tough one."

Trump's statement came after a source revealed that Melania spent Christmas with her mother at a hospital.

"Melania has always been very devoted to her entire family," a source told Fox News about the former first lady. "It should be no surprise that she spent this Christmas with her ailing mother."

Melania's decision led to her absence from a Trump family Christmas celebration hosted at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida.

A picture of the family enjoying the day at the luxury resort club also made its way to social media, which initially raised questions about her whereabouts.

In the meantime, there has been no information about burial arrangements for Amalija. The mother of two was born in 1945 and grew up in Slovenia during a tumultuous period for the Eastern European country.

At the time, the country was transitioning from Nazi occupation to incorporation into the socialist republic of Yugoslavia.

Amalija and her husband Viktor brought up Melania and her sister Ines in the town of Sevnica, where they lived in a state-run housing complex. Amalija worked at a children's clothing factory as a pattern maker.

Eventually, both Amalija and Viktor relocated to the United States, where they joined Melania. They became citizens in 2018 through a special ceremony in New York City.

The duo were often seen with Melania and Trump going on trips during their time at the White House. They were also seen visiting the White House on some occasions and spent some time living there.
