Prince Harry reportedly plans on skipping his father, King Charles III's 75th birthday event, marking the second time he's declined a family invitation.
Harry's refusal to attend Charles' birthday comes amid rumors that his wife Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, plans to write a memoir about her life.
There are reports that the book will include details about her relationship with Kate Middleton and how things went sour between the two women.
Prince Harry Will Reportedly Skip King Charles' 75th Birthday
Prince Harry will miss his father, King Charles' 75th birthday celebration at Clarence House in London; despite receiving an invitation to the event, insiders suggest he won't be in attendance on November 14.
The invitation turned down is the second time Harry has declined his father's invitations. According to numerous reports, he allegedly turned down an offer to visit Balmoral after Queen Elizabeth's passing despite being on a visit from California at the time.
However, Harry attended the King's Coronation back in May but returned to the United States right after the ceremony.
King Charles' Invite Was An Olive Branch To His Son
According to an insider who spoke to The Sunday Times, King Charles extended the invitation to the birthday event as an olive branch to his son.
A royal insider explained: "When he gets to the end of another successful work day and thinks of his family, there will always be a twinge in his heart about a problem he hasn't been able to solve yet, but he will be taking the long-term view. The current act is a challenging one."
The source continued: "There are issues that aren't resolved and there won't be a rapprochement any time soon. There is the sense of a cooling-off period from the family that is underway after the aftershocks of the book and interviews."
Despite this, the insider added that the King's love for his son remains and that "he'll never not invite his son to a family gathering, because that's not who he is."
Prince Harry And King Charles 'Don't Speak Much' After The Duke's Memoir 'Spare'
According to the outlet, this recent snub by Prince Harry comes after reports that Harry and King Charles "don't speak much." Allegedly, the monarch was disappointed by Harry's portrayal of Queen Camilla in his memoir "Spare."
In his memoir, Harry characterized his stepmother, Queen Camilla, as "dangerous" and a "villain," alleging that she had left "bodies in the street."
He wrote, "I have complex feelings about gaining a step-parent who I thought had recently sacrificed me on her personal PR altar."
The Duke of Sussex also accused his father, Charles, and Camilla of "planting stories" about his brother William. "Give Pa and Camilla an inch, they take a mile," he said, per the Daily Mail.
In another instance, Omid Scobie, a prominent author and unofficial spokesperson for Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, launched a scathing critique of the Royal Family in his latest book, "Endgame."
The book, available on Amazon, describes its content as "a penetrating investigation into the current state of the British monarchy – an unpopular king, a power-hungry heir to the throne, a queen willing to go to dangerous lengths to preserve her image and a prince forced to start a new life after being betrayed by his own family."
Royal Family Snubs Prince Harry On His Birthday
Since quitting the Royal family in 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have made various claims regarding their treatment within the Palace, including during an Oprah interview and in Harry's memoir.
According to insiders, the Duke's relationship with the Royal family remains strained. Furthermore, the Royal Family didn't publicly acknowledge Harry's birthday in September, and personal well-wishes were reportedly absent from Prince William and King Charles.
A source who spoke to The Telegraph revealed: "Communications between the King and Prince Harry remain pretty poor. They don't speak much, if at all."
The insider suggested that this could be because King Charles is a "workaholic" and prefers to communicate via telephone and letter rather than by text and WhatsApp.
