On Monday, the "Wizards of Waverly Place" star went on her Instagram Stories to reveal her deep concern over recent global news headlines and explained why she took a break from social media.

"I've been taking a break from social media because my heart breaks to see all of the horror, hate, violence and terror that's going on in the world," Gomez, 31, wrote. "People being tortured and killed or any act of hate towards any one group is horrific."

She added, "We need to protect ALL people, especially children and stop the violence for good."

The "Love You Like a Love Song" hitmaker appears to be alluding to the continuous conflict in the Middle East between Israel and Hamas, with reports indicating that thousands of Palestinians and Israelis have lost their lives in the ongoing hostilities since early October.

Addressing her recent quietness on Instagram, Gomez commented in her Instagram Story, acknowledging that fans had taken notice. Her last post, dating back to October 7, featured an advertisement for a collaboration between her beauty brand, Rare Beauty, and Sephora, where proceeds from sales were pledged to the Rare Impact Fund -- an initiative dedicated to broadening mental health services for young individuals.

"I wish I could change the world. But a post won't," Gomez, ranked as the third most followed celebrity on Instagram, noted. Currently, she has over 430 million followers on the site.

This marks the second social media hiatus of the year for Gomez, following a brief pause in February.

Earlier this year, the "Only Murders In The Building" actress went live on TikTok, announcing her break from social media after defending her bestie, Taylor Swift, on the platform regarding a video that involved Hailey Bieber.

In January, Gomez returned to Instagram after a four-year break during which she delegated control of her account to her assistant.

"I haven't been on the internet in four and a half years... It has changed my life completely," Gomez told Good Morning America in an interview. "I am happier, I am more present, I connect more with people."
