Britney Spears Reveals Her ‘Motive’ For Writing ‘The Woman In Me’

Pop star Britney Spears is opening up about the "motive" for writing her new memoir, "The Woman In Me."
Many of the headlines that have emerged from her tell-all book so far have been about her ex-boyfriend, Justin Timberlake, whom she dated from 1999 to 2002. As her memoir shows, their relationship was full of allegations of infidelity and, as her tell-all book only recently revealed, an unplanned pregnancy.
However, the now 41-year-old pop star took to X, formerly known as Twitter, on Friday afternoon to insist that she is only telling her story and doesn't intend to run anyone's name through the mud.

In a message posted both to X, formerly known as Twitter, and Instagram, the "Hold Me Closer" singer opened up about her motivation for writing "The Woman In Me" only days ahead of its official release on October 24.
"My book's purpose was not to offend anyone by any means !!! That was me then ...that is in the past !!!" she began. "I don't like the headlines I am reading ...that's exactly why I quit the business 4 years ago !!! Most of the book is from 20 years ago ... I have moved on and it's a beautiful clean slate from here !!!"
"I am here to establish it that way for the rest of my entire life !!!" she continued. "Either way, that is the last of it and s--- happens !! This is actually a book didn't know needed to be written ... although some might be offended, it has given me closure on all things for a better future !!!"
"Hopefully I can enlighten people who feel particularly alone in most cases or hurt or misunderstood !!! Again, my motive for this book was not to harp on my past experiences which is what the press is doing and it's dumb and silly !!!" she concluded. "I have moved on since then !! #TheWomaninMe."
Britney has declined to do interviews for the memoir, even though she had allegedly been offered large financial sums to do so. Even though she teased a potential sequel to her memoir coming in the future, she deleted that Instagram post and it seems that she might be reconsidering based on the amount of attention this book has received.
Fans Support Britney Amid The Release Of Her New Memoir
Although she usually disables comments on her Instagram posts, she did not disable comments on this one. “Media twist everything. It’s stupid and silly. And you should not feel the need to explain yourself,” one fan commented. Another follower agreed, writing, “Can’t wait to read this future best seller. You don’t have to apologize or explain yourself at all.”
“It’s so good you are speaking out about everything! Many women will understand and have been in similar positions and it’s good to be open about these issues,” a third fan chimed in. “Speak whatever you need. You have been silenced for more than 13 years in an abusive conservatorship. Britney, BE PROUD OF YOURSELF,” another follower wrote.
“You don’t owe anyone anything or any type of explanation. You’re allowed to speak your mind and live freely. F--- anyone who thinks otherwise. They are all brainwashed and none of them could’ve handled what you’ve been through,” another fan shared. “It's a part (chapter) of your life, so it is good it's in your book in your biography that very natural things to do! How you can write a biography without facts from your life!” another follower chimed in.
“We love you, B. I’m sorry you have to see these headlines. We are happy to hear your side of the story. Finally!” another fan exclaimed. “You deserve closure- I am looking forward to listening to your audiobook. Wish you all the best with the book! Also going to see Crossroads again at the cinema! You deserve the success!” another follower shared.
“Looking forward to reading your book pretty soon next week. Thank you for opening up your heart to us. We love you. Your past experiences have their own meaning and yes, we are not alone because we have you,” another fan commented. “The only people who will be offended by you sharing your truth are the people who benefited from your silence. Can’t wait to read it,” another follower wrote.
“You don't owe anyone an apology. this is your experience and your truth. if people don't like how it affected you maybe they shouldn't have treated you that way. From one traumatized person to another, you deserve peace and happiness. The media is looking for clicks and using your trauma for it,” another fan wrote while many followers expressed their agreement.
Britney Spears' memoir "The Woman In Me" is scheduled for release on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.
