New details are being revealed about the unplanned pregnancy that Britney Spears went through with Justin Timberlake.
The former couple dated for only three years, from 1999 to 2002. Although their relationship was full of allegations of infidelity, the two had never opened up on the unplanned pregnancy until Britney’s memoir, “The Woman In Me.”
Britney Spears Recalls ‘Agonizing’ Decision To Terminate Her Pregnancy
In an excerpt of “The Woman In Me,” released by People magazine, Britney opened up on her unplanned pregnancy.
“It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated,” she wrote in her memoir. “But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young.”
“I don’t know if that was the right decision. If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father,” she continued, adding, “To this day, it’s one of the most agonizing things I have ever experienced in my life.”
Britney Spears Was In ‘Excruciating’ Pain From At-Home Abortion Medication
According to a new excerpt of “The Woman In Me” released by the Associated Press, Britney, who was only 19 at the time, said that she and Justin agreed not to go to the doctor or the hospital to keep the unplanned pregnancy a secret from the public. In fact, she said that they agreed to go through with terminating the pregnancy without even telling her family that she was pregnant.
“It was important that no one find out about the pregnancy or the abortion, which meant doing everything at home,” Britney wrote, describing the pain of the medication as “excruciating.”
“I kept crying and sobbing until it was all over,” Britney recalled in her memoir. “It took hours, and I don’t remember how it ended, but I do, twenty years later, remember the pain of it, and the fear.”

The news of Britney’s abortion comes hot on the heels of a resurfaced 2006 interview from Justin Timberlake, where he didn’t speak too highly of the “Toxic” singer. At the time, he told journalist Robert Haskell, “If I was writing an article about her, I would not be able to fight the urge to write every dirty thing about her.”
“I dated Britney half my life, but I don’t know that person anymore. I'm not sure I knew her before,” he added.
Britney Spears Was 'Comatose' Following The End Of Their Relationship
According to an excerpt from "The Woman In Me" released by the New York Times, the “Womanizer” singer was “devastated” by the end of the relationship, writing, “I was comatose in Louisiana, and he was happily running around Hollywood.”
She also slammed the media for calling her the “harlot who’d broken the heart of America’s golden boy” after it was implied that she inspired his famous “Cry Me A River” music video. In the memoir, she also claims that Justin broke up with her via text message.
That being said, a longtime family friend told The Sun that "Justin owns who he was when he and Britney were together, even though his personality, career, lifestyle, and personal priorities are radically different now, twenty years later."
"This book is a nightmare for him because of how it throws the whole family into chaos. The timing stings just as much as the revelation itself," they continued. "Justin had a big fall planned with new music on deck, more work with his old friends in NSYNC, and of course, the next installment of the Trolls franchise, which has been a huge moneymaker for Justin over the last several years.”
Britney Spears' memoir "The Woman In Me" is scheduled for release on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.
