Find Out Why Britney Spears Chose Michelle Williams To Narrate ‘The Woman In Me’
It was a difficult decision trying to figure out which female celebrity was going to become the voice of “The Woman In Me.” A source told Page Six that the “Greatest Showman” actress was selected for the role due to, not only her impressive body of work but her complicated family history that rivals that of the pop star.
The 41-year-old actress is not only the same age as Britney, but she is also a five-time Oscar nominee, a two-time Golden Globe winner, and a Tony Award nominee. She is also a mother of two children. She shared one child with the late actor Heath Ledger before his sudden passing.
Michelle Williams Reportedly Brings 'Gravitas' To 'The Woman In Me'
One insider said that Michelle was chosen for the role because “She brings a tremendous amount of class and elegance and even a broader audience,” adding, “[She has an] incredible amount of integrity and stature in the industry. She brings gravitas.”
Both celebrities were involved in the entertainment industry at a young age and are estranged from their families. According to the Guardian, the “My Week With Marilyn” actress was emancipated from her parents when she was only fifteen years old so that she could start working “adult hours” as she started her acting career.
Michelle Williams Was Emancipated From Her Parents At Age 15
Although her parents, Larry and Carla, co-signed the decision, Michelle found herself facing difficult situations after she left her home in California for Hollywood. “There are some really disgusting people in the world and I met some of them,” Michelle told the British newspaper, noting that she was “no longer” in contact with her father.
Britney also has a difficult relationship with her father, Jamie Spears. The 71-year-old entrepreneur served as Britney’s conservator, which meant that he had full control of her financial and personal affairs from 2008 to 2021. The conservatorship also strained Britney’s relationship with her mother, Lynne Spears, and her sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, as well.
Britney Spears Reportedly Supported The Decision To Hire Michelle Williams
A source told Page Six that Michelle's past, combined with Britney’s history, makes a “really powerful and compelling story,” adding that the “book is what attracted Michelle to” the project.
“There was a mutual attraction from all sides based on Britney’s powerful narrative and what Britney went through and Michelle’s own integrity and history with her own emancipation issues,” the insider said, confirming that the publisher, Gallery Books, was responsible for the hiring process. However, the “Toxic” singer reportedly backed the decision.
Britney Spears Will Only Read The Introduction Of 'The Woman In Me'
On Friday, People magazine reported that Britney will only read the introduction to her audiobook, while Michelle Williams will read the rest of the book. “This book has been a labor of love and all the emotions that come with it,” Britney told the publication in a brief statement. “Reliving everything has been exciting, heart-wrenching, and emotional, to say the least. For those reasons, I will only be reading a small part of my audiobook.”
“I am so grateful to the amazing Michelle Williams for reading the rest of it,” she added. Meanwhile, Michelle released her own short statement to support the pop star, simply stating, “I stand with Britney.”
Britney's Ex Sam Asghari Is 'Proud' Of Britney's Memoir
On August 16, actor Sam Asghari filed for divorce after fourteen months of marriage. However, he is not concerned with what the pop star had to say about him in her memoir. It's been reported that he won't be mentioned much at all, as the two continue to hammer out the details of their divorce.
On Thursday, TMZ asked the "Special Ops: Lioness" actor if he was "nervous" about what Britney might have to say of him. The actor said that he had "already read it" and was "very proud of her." He went on to say, "She put a lot of work to it and it and it was very hard, so I’m definitely excited and I’m extremely proud of her. It was a very tough one, and, uh, you know, I can’t wait to read it. I’ll be the first one in line to buy it.”
When asked if he was back in the dating pool, the 29-year-old actor replied, “No, I’m focused on work right now. So, you know, that’s what I’m… I’m doing. I’m putting a lot of work in stunt training and a lot of acting."
