Taylor Swift Uses 'SNF' And Travis Kelce Drama For Self-Promotion

For the second week, Taylor Swift took over the internet as she appeared alongside some famous friends at MetLife Stadium to cheer on her rumored boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Throughout the game coverage, NBC showed the "Bad Blood" singer in the suite several times, with mixed reactions from NFL fans and Swifties. Some are even questioning if the whole Traylor drama lately is just one big publicity stunt -- and after the "Eras Tour" promotion during the commercial break last night, fans are now convinced.

Not only did NBC show Taylor Swift on several different occasions, seemingly ignoring the fact that Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Sabrina Carpenter, Paul Rudd, and Hugh Jackman were all in attendance as well, but during the commercial break, fans watched a promo for Swift's "Eras Tour" movie.

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour has been turned into a concert film. It will be released to select movie theaters worldwide beginning in October 2023, which the "Love Story" singer coincidentally announced the day after she first appeared at the Kansas City Chiefs game last week.

The film, which will be a total of 2 hours and 45 minutes, is directed by Sam Wrench and will give fans the chance to see Taylor Swift up close during the show as if you were actually on stage with her -- and Swift's PR team decided to utilize the "Sunday Night Football" publicity to promote it.

Not only did fans watching the Jets vs. Chiefs game last night watch one commercial promoting Swift's "Eras Tour," they saw it at least twice -- meaning Swift's PR team utilized the drama between her and Travis Kelce to their advantage, but it came at a price.

According to Statista, a 30-second commercial during "Sunday Night Football" in 2023 costs around 828.5 thousand U.S. dollars. Because fans watched not one but two different commercials promoting Taylor Swift's "Eras Tour" movie, it can be assumed that the PR team spent over $1 million U.S. dollars to get the word out about the film.

Fans, especially those there to watch football, are beginning to get tired of Taylor Swift's name, even calling the whole thing a PR stunt.

"At this point, the Kelce/Taylor Swift s--t has to be a PR stunt," one fan expressed on X.

Another fan said something similar, writing, "Taylor Swift dating Travis Kelce is definitely a pr stunt.".

"Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's romance is an elaborate PR stunt set up in partnership with the NFL to gain a wider audience/viewers for the NFL," another user expressed.

Last week, Taylor Swift showed up at the Chiefs game alongside Kelce's mom, Donna, and fans exploded. Kelce's jersey sales have spiked nearly 400%, per ESPN. According to FOX Sports, the game was the week's highest-rated telecast on any network, with 24.3 million viewers.

Following the Chief's win against the Bears, Kelce and Swift were spotted leaving Arrowhead Stadium together. Although they were not hand in hand, Swift was clearly on cloud nine as she was seen smiling from ear to ear and laughing on her way out. The two also reportedly grabbed dinner together in an intimate setting.
