On Wednesday night, when police were conducting a welfare check on pop star Britney Spears, her ex, Sam Asghari, was attending a charity event.
The 29-year-old actor started dating the 41-year-old Princess of Pop in 2016 after meeting on the set of their "Slumber Party" music video. They became engaged in September 2021, only two months before she was freed of her 13-year controversial conservatorship in November 2021. The two tied the knot in June 2022 but reports of trouble plagued their relationship almost immediately.
On August 16, the "Special Ops: Lioness" actor filed for divorce from the "Toxic" singer, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split, according to court documents obtained by The Blast.

In the caption of this Instagram post, Sam wrote, "Last night COSF hosted their first ever Zodiac Ball at the Houdini Estate to raise money for Pediatric Cancer, proceeds will fund art and music therapy programs for one year. It’s important to support causes like COSF that support children battling cancer."
"The founder @filmingthomas reminded us in his speech, 'Children are 1/5 our population but 100 % of our future.' That really resonated with me," he continued. "Thank you @cosf_foundation for having me, the work you do is incredible, and thank you for the memorable night of fashion and philanthropy."
Fans Have A Lot Of Thoughts About Sam Asghari and Britney Spears' Relationship
Unlike the “Overprotected” singer, Sam has not been disabling comments on his Instagram page following the divorce. Although the comments were overwhelmingly in support of Britney at first, the comments have taken a turn following Britney’s viral knife dancing videos, where she appears to have cut herself.
“You look happier than ever since you left Britney. No money can buy happiness and peace… look at you now. Your face has changed and you look happier and healthier,” one fan commented. “He is so proper. Meanwhile, Brit is twirling in her living room alone with her stripper pole stuck in the 90s,” another follower commented.
“Britney lost a good guy, I think. I hope she gets well, if indeed she isn’t, which is how it appears. Love Sam,” a third fan chimed in. “Sad as I was rooting for them, but I think he found it more challenging than expected. She needs to come off social media and take time to heal (Not just a few days) – a few years! Wish them both the best,” another follower wrote.
“Thank you for your support for these children!!!!! Nothing about cancer is easy for an adult but for a child, it is beyond heartbreaking!!!! God bless you for supporting such an important and much-needed charity!!!” another fan exclaimed. “Go get ‘em, Sam! Really respect you and your work ethic!” another follower agreed.
Other fans still expressed sympathy for the "Gimme More" singer in the comments of Sam's video. “The unfortunate truth is her family committed irreparable harm to her. They robbed her of the years when she became a responsible adult. She seems perpetually stuck as though she’s still in her twenties. It’s truly heartbreaking to see. She was a brilliant artist on the way to being at the top of her field. Now she will be mostly remembered for being stuck in a constant dance loop in front of her phone…. At this point, I don’t know if she’s able to get better. Very sad,” one netizen wrote.
“All one needs to do is look at the videos of her dancing around in her underwear with knives, and making a complete fool of herself every day on Instagram, and this man, thank God, got away from all that craziness, and he’s out doing things to help people. So you little Britney fans get off this site. You don’t belong here; go get crazy with her. This is a good man,” another user commented, which sparked yet another lengthy debate in the comments. Regardless, many fans pointed out that this was Sam's page and they should be celebrating his support for a much-needed charity, not commenting on his divorce.
