According to reports Shakira has been charged with tax fraud for the second time in the last decade.

A complaint filed by prosecutors against the star claimed that Shakira omitted "to declare income and deducting expenses that were not applicable" for her earnings from the year 2018. By doing so, it reduced the "amount to be paid" to the tax authorities in her country of residence, Spain.

It is believed that the total amount the singer failed to remit is 6.7 million euros ($7.1 million) and that she used "a corporate network in tax havens" to avoid paying the sum.

Despite the news, Shakira's legal team said that the "Hips Don't Lie" crooner has yet to receive any notification regarding the lawsuit.

Apart from the recent charges, the singer is gearing up to hit the courts with regard to a separate tax case.

Less than two months ago, she was charged with six counts of fraud for her earnings for the 2012-2014 financial years. The total amount she failed to pay was reportedly valued at $15.4 million.

In the filing, the Spanish prosecutors claimed that the Colombian singer already lived in Barcelona between 2012 and 2014 before she moved to the location with her now ex, Gerrard Pique, and their two sons. Hence, she was expected to pay taxes for that year.

The singer recently opened up about her past relationship with former Barcelona player Piqué, whom she was in a relationship with for 11 years.

She shared that all through the time it lasted, she was focused on always making it work, regardless of their marital troubles.

"My priority was my home, my family. I believed in "till death do us part," she said in an interview with Billboard. "I believed that dream, and I had that dream for myself, for my children.

"My parents have been together, I don't know, 50 years, and they love each other like the first day, with a love that's unique and unrepeatable. So I know it's possible."

However, in the wake of discovering that Pique cheated on her, she is now forced to admit that her deep desire for a love that lasts forever won't materialize.

Shakira added, "It's what I wanted for myself and my children, but it didn't happen."

Shakira also revealed that her dedication to Pique and her family made it difficult for her to put maximum effort into her career.

"Well, the thing is, I was dedicated to him. To the family, to him," she said. "It was very difficult for me to attend to my professional career while in Barcelona."

According to the singer, the difficulty came from a logistical standpoint, as it was challenging to find collaborators in Barcelona since she had to wait for schedules to match up.

She noted, "I couldn't leave my children and just go somewhere to make music outside my house. It was hard to maintain the rhythm."

Since leaving Pique and moving to Miami, the Grammy-winning star has steered her career back on track and has announced plans for a global tour in 2024. Despite her reputation for extravagant concerts, she aims to keep ticket prices "affordable," emphasizing that the repertoire of songs is paramount.
