Foster and McPhee's world was rocked after getting news of Calito's passing. As it was revealed, the nanny had passed away after being struck at a Toyota dealership in California's San Fernando Valley on August 9.
According to the police's press release, an unidentified woman in her 50s lost her life in an incident involving a 2017 Toyota RAV4 that occurred inside the dealership's service center at approximately 9 a.m. The driver, an 84-year-old woman from Mission Hills, California, was unharmed but caused injuries to two employees and a customer.
A month later, the heavyweight entertainers broke their silence on the tragedy, with Foster telling ET in a joint interview alongside his wife, "Yeah, it's been tough. She's managing." The "You May Not Kiss the Bride" actress chimed in, "Thank you."
She had revealed on Instagram on August 11 that she would have to exit from her and her husband's 'Hitman Tour' in Asia due to a family emergency. In her post, the 39-year-old shared:
"It's with a heavy heart I announce I have to miss our final 2 shows of our Asia run. David and I have had a horrible tragedy in our family, and at least one of us needs to get back home to our family."
While expressing her regret for leaving this leg of the tour, McPhee added, "Please know how sorry I am and how much I wish to return one day and perform for you all."
Many fans quickly reacted to the news, with this one expressing in the comments, "I hope your family will be okay very soon... family first," and another typing, "I am so so so so sorry for this terrible news! I'm thinking of you and sending you all much much love."
A third person chimed, "OMG, noo, I am so deeply sorry for whatever tragedy has happened, Katharine. I will be praying for you every day, and you will be in my thoughts and prayers!" As The Blast observed, a few celebrities also joined in expressing their heartfelt sympathy.
Former actress Linda Thompson wrote, "Sending you and David love, & hoping that everything is OK," while singer Nicole Scherzinger shared, "Sending my love and prayers for your family." Fitness instructor Amanda Kloots added her support by saying, "Sending you loads of love. I'm thinking of you guys."
Katharine McPhee's Husband Has Grown A lot Since They Welcomed Their Son
Months before Calito's passing, Foster had highlighted his perspective on becoming a father again and taking on parental responsibilities, at age 73. Per The Blast, an interview had seen the musician disclosing that his advanced age has granted him wisdom, which he intends to pass on to his child. In the words of the 16-time Grammy Awards winner :
"I think that I can offer one thing to Rennie even though I won't be around when he's 50 or 40 even, or 30 maybe. I think I can offer him wisdom from my [73] years on the planet, and maybe that's not a bad trade-off. I hope so."
Elaborating on his eagerness to impart his age-acquired wisdom to his child, Foster explained that this perspective stems from a time when he lived without much patience. "I was not patient when I was young. I was arrogant and just on the move," the septuagenarian admitted before asserting:
"At this point in my life, it's different again. Not better or worse, just different. I still work, I'm still gone a lot, but maybe the time is a little more precious to me because I got more runway behind me than I have ahead of me now."
Foster and McPhee welcomed Rennie to the family in February, following nearly three years of marriage. The music veteran, who has been previously married, is also a father to five daughters — Allison, Amy, Sara, Erin, and Jordan.
