In an interview with People magazine, Foster, who is a septuagenarian, discussed raising his 20-month-old son, Rennie, with his wife, McPhee.

Acknowledging that he might not still be on earth when his child reaches an advanced age, the music producer feels he has a lot to offer his son beyond a massive inheritance.

"I think that I can offer one thing to Rennie even though I won't be around when he's 50 or 40 even, or 30 maybe," the 73-year-old told the publication per Page Six. "I think I can offer him wisdom from my [73] years on the planet, and maybe that's not a bad trade-off. I hope so."

Explaining further about his eagerness to impact his age-given wisdom to his child, Foster shared that this perspective came from previously living his life without being "patient."

"I was not patient when I was young," he confessed. "I was arrogant and just on the move."

The Grammy Award winner went on to compare raising a child in his old age with when he was far younger.

"At this point in my life, it's different again," he remarked. "Not better or worse, just different."

However, the former Verve Records exec did hint that he places extra value on the time he gets to spend with his son. He added, "I still work, I'm still gone a lot, but maybe the time is a little more precious to me because I got more runway behind me than I have ahead of me now."

Although having a baby in his early seventies is not a regular occurrence, the composer is enjoying the experience.

He disclosed to the People magazine that welcoming his child has not filled him with any regrets, although it was not something he had planned for.

"I've loved every single day," he said. "It's the standard thing of like, 'Oh, well you were so young when you had your children, and you were working day and night, you never saw them.' And there is some truth to that, sadly, for my [older] kids. I was just working a lot. Even though I'm working a lot now, I'll cancel anything just to hang with him. It's just different."

Regarding his "unconventional" relationship with McPhee, Foster shared that he and his partner "belong together" despite their age gap.

The music producer likened their link to that of veteran musician Celine Dion and her late husband, Rene Angelil, who also shared a "big age difference."

"With Céline and [late husband] René Angélil, there was a big age difference…It just looked and felt normal," he said. "But it was, of course, kind of odd in the beginning."

He then acknowledged that the initial oddness had fizzled away in the years after they came together as one.

McPhee, who was also part of the People interview, remarked, "we just love our history, how we met and where we are now. Sometimes we look at each other like, 'This is so wild that we're together.'"
