While it remains unclear if Foster and McPhee's son, Rennie, was in Asia with them when they suffered a family emergency, TMZ sources have claimed that it was the toddler's nanny that passed on. They also affirmed that the "Comfort Country" actress was already on her way to her home in California.

As we wait for more details about the situation to unfold, it is worth noting that the singer-songwriter had initially informed her Asian fans about her absence from the last two shows in Jakarta on Friday. At the time, she had written via Instagram:

"Dearest Jakarta fans, it's with heavy heart I announce I have to miss our final 2 shows of our Asia run. David and I have had a horrible tragedy in our family, and at least one of us needs to get back home to our family."

After pleading with fans to understand "how sorry" she was about the incident and how much she wished "to return one day and perform" for them, she signed off, "Love, Katharine." In addition to his successful Grammy-winning music career, Foster is a devoted father to six children. His journey as a parent began when he welcomed his first daughter at the age of 20. He subsequently expanded his family by welcoming four more daughters.

Notably, the Canadian composer became a father to his first son and youngest child, whom he shares with McPhee, at age 71 in 2021. Speaking on the experience of becoming a father again and re-embracing parental duties, the now-73-year-old highlighted how his advanced age has granted him wisdom that he intends to impart to his child.

As the "Nothin' You Can Do About It" singer disclosed, "I think that I can offer one thing to Rennie even though I won't be around when he's 50 or 40 even, or 30 maybe. I think I can offer him wisdom from my [73] years on the planet, and maybe that's not a bad trade-off. I hope so."

Elaborating on his desire to impart his age-acquired wisdom to Rennie, Foster revealed that this perspective emerged from having lived a portion of his life without cultivating patience.

"I was not patient when I was young. I was arrogant and just on the move. At this point in my life, it's different again. Not better or worse, just different," the Grammy Awards winner said of his past and present realities.

Nonetheless, the ex-Verve Records executive hinted that he incredibly valued spending quality time with his son, stating, "I still work, I'm still gone a lot, but maybe the time is a little more precious to me because I got more runway behind me than I have ahead of me now."
