The home in Studio City where former "Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek once lived is about to be demolished.

The house was sold for millions in 2022 by Trebek's widow, Jean Trebek. Although some fans want to see the home where the late game show host passed away turned into a memorial, it seems that the new owners have other plans.

In November 2020, Alex Trebek passed away in his home in Studio City following a public battle with pancreatic cancer. Believe it or not, the late game show host was a big fan of DIY projects and could often be seen driving his pickup truck to the hardware store for more home improvement supplies.

In January 2022, his widow Jean Trebek sold the L.A. abode for $6,450,000. Just over a year later, in February 2023, the new owners were granted a permit to demolish the structure where the "Jeopardy!" host once lived.

Although fans knew the home would be demolished for months, many were disappointed to see the home where Trebek lived for three decades being destroyed this week as bulldozers and excavators pulled up to the property.

His former neighbors sent TMZ photos and videos of the demolition, which included a wall with a tarp that had been constructed around the property last week before construction crews got to work destroying the home where the late Alex Trebek and his family spent so much of their time.

Current "Jeopardy!" and "Celebrity Jeopardy!" host, Greatest Of All Time "Jeopardy!" tournament winner Ken Jennings, recently opened up on the last conversation he had with Alex Trebek following the passing of "The Price Is Right" game show host Bob Barker last month. Late last month, the author of “100 Places to See After You Die: A Travel Guide to the Afterlife” spoke to the Last Podcast on the Left to talk about his final conversation with the late “Jeopardy!” host.

“I actually ended up talking to him what turned out to be the night before the day he passed away, about guest hosting for him,” Ken recalled, admitting that they “didn’t know” how soon it would be until Alex lost his public battle with pancreatic cancer.

“We actually didn’t know. We thought, ‘Oh, he’s going to get better, he’s gonna bounce back, he’ll be hosting again.’ I was just going to fill in,” Ken explained. “You know, he gave me the impression he always did over the years, which was that he did not want to be the center of attention on Jeopardy!”

“He was never announced as the star of Jeopardy! – he was always the host of Jeopardy! because he thought the game itself and the contestants should be the star,” he added.

Ken Recalled Alex’s Voice Being ‘Notably Weaker’ Than It Had Been In The Past

This is not the first time that the “Jeopardy!” co-host has opened up on his final conversation with the late game show host. In October 2022, he sat down with Vulture to reveal that producers had asked him to guest host some games after Alex’s voice was “notably weaker” than it had been in the past.

“I was scheduled to come into the studio to rehearse for some games. Even if Alex bounced back as he had before, he wanted somebody to fill in for him for a little while,” Ken said at the time. “A producer set up a call, and his voice was notably weaker than we’d ever heard it on the air, which really struck me at first. It was a tough moment. But once you got over the timbre of the voice, he was still very much Alex.”

“The thing that stuck with me is he thanked me for coming in to fill in for him. That just broke me,” he continued. “I said, ‘Alex, are you kidding? We should be thanking you. I’d take a bullet for you, Alex. I’m happy to help.’ Of course, I didn’t know that he would be gone within 36 hours.”

In September 2022, Ken told the Washington Post that Alex had specifically requested that Ken fill in for him. The two had developed a friendship after Ken won 74 games in a row back in 2004 - still the longest winning streak on the show. “He said, ‘Hey, we’ve been talking, and if you’re serious about being retired from Jeopardy!, would you want to come aboard? Like, move to the front office?’" Ken recalled. "That was nice because I was kind of already missing the show.”
