The cause of death of the late "The Price Is Right" host Bob Barker has finally been revealed.

Robert William Barker was the host of the longest-running game show from 1972 to 2007 before he eventually retired. The former “Truth or Consequences” host was born in December 1923 and passed away on August 26, 2023, just a few months shy of his 100th birthday.

Many were surprised to hear Bob Barker’s cause of death. According to his death certificate, the 99-year-old former game show host passed away as a result of Alzheimer’s disease. The public was not made aware that he had been struggling with Alzheimer’s disease. It’s unknown how long he battled it, but doctors said that he died “years” after he was first diagnosed.

Interestingly enough, Bob Barker once teamed up with PETA to create an ad highlighting the benefits of a vegetarian diet. Barker, who was a vegetarian for over four decades, once created an ad for PETA in 2013 that listed preventing Alzheimer’s disease as one of the benefits of following a meat-free diet.

In addition to his battle with Alzheimer’s disease former game show host suffered multiple falls over the years and had a few minor battles with skin cancer. He also took two separate trips to the hospital in 2018 for back pain.

Bob Barker’s cause of death was first reported by TMZ.

Fans Thank Bob Barker For What He Did For Animals

In the PETA ad, Bob Barker explained that he “felt healthier” and had “more energy” after he became a vegetarian. He claims that “studies show” eating meat gives an individual a much greater chance of developing Alzheimer’s disease. “So, to protect your memory, eat vegetarian and keep your wits about you into a ripe old age,” he says at the end of the video.

“Thanks for what you do for the animals, Mr. Barker!” one fan commented. “Dude went from handsome guy to cute old man. He's one of my heroes,” another follower wrote. “If Bob Barker can go vegetarian, I guess it's never too late,” a third fan chimed in. “Vegetarian is an OK first step, but going fully VEGAN has whole a host of health benefits for you & the animals,” another user wrote.

According to PETA UK,  there are several different benefits to eating a vegan diet, which means giving up meat, dairy, and eggs. According to their website, a vegan diet is rich in nutrients, can reduce the risk of cancer and other diseases, can boost your mood, help you maintain healthy body weight, prevent type 2 diabetes, clear up your complexion, and reduce arthritis pain.

Fans and Famous Friends Pay Tribute To Bob Barker

Drew Carey, who took over Bob’s role on “The Price Is Right,” took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to pay tribute to Bob Barker shortly after his passing.

“Very sad day for the Price Is Right family, and animal lovers all over the world. There hasn’t been a day on set that I didn’t think of Bob Barker and thank him. I will carry his memory in my heart forever.#RIPBobBarker.” he tweeted, adding, “We love you” along with a red heart emoji.

Adam Sandler took to Instagram to pay tribute to his "Happy Gilmore" costar. “The man. The myth. The best. Such a sweet funny guy to hang out with. Loved talking to him. Loved laughing with him. Loved him kicking the crap out of me,” he wrote. “He will be missed by everyone I know! Heartbreaking day. Love to Bob always and his family! Thanks for all you gave us!”

Frequent Adam Sandler collaborator Rob Schneider also took to Twitter to pay his condolences. “One of the nicest things I ever heard in showbusiness was Bob Barker saying, ‘I moved to Hollywood to be an actor and the only person who ever let me do it was Adam Sandler!’ This scene with them was and will always be absolutely hilarious!” he tweeted. “God bless you, Bob.”
