NBA star Tristan Thompson is asking a court to give him guardianship over his brother with special needs after the Kardashian familystepped in to help.

According to new legal documents, obtained by The Blast, Thompson filed a petition for guardianship which would give him the ability to care for and make medical decisions for his brother, Amari Thompson.

Amari lived with his mother, Andrea Brooks, until her sudden death on January 5, 2023. As we reported, Khloe and the Kardashian family rushed to Canada to support Thompson following the death.

As you know, Khloe Kardashian recently posted about taking in the 17-year-old after Thompson's home had some roof issues. It should be noted, he lives 3 doors down from the 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians' star.

In the documents, Tristan accuses Amari's father of being a deadbeat dad. He writes, "Amari's father, Trevor Thompson, has actively been absent from Amari's life since Andrea Brooks received sole custody of Amari and a support order against Trevor Thompson in July of 2014. Trevor Thompson has never fulfilled any of his support obligations towards Amari and has been actively avoiding them."

Thompson claims he has attempted to contact Amari's father, but he is unable to reach him. "Trevor Douglas Thompson has effectively abandoned the proposed ward; he failed to pay any child support despite the court order and has not been in contact with the proposed ward or Andrea Marie Brooks since July 2014. He has done nothing to support or raise the proposed ward since then and has relinquished all rights to have any say in the proposed ward’s care," the filing reads.

At this point, Tristan is telling the court he has been taking care of his brother for over 6 months. The extended Kardashian family has ensured Amari has made all of his medical appointments and met his basic needs. Obviously, it appears the family has stepped up in this situation.

The decision is now up to a judge.
