Neil Patrick Harris & David Burkta Are Still Strong After Nine Years: Inside Their Love Story

After spending nearly a decade with one another as married couples, Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka remain madly in love!

The couple, who had been dating for ten years before tying the knot on Sept. 6, 2014, at a private ceremony in Italy, were in a celebratory mood as they marked their ninth wedding anniversary in style. 

Aside from being happily married, the lovebirds are doting parents who share twins, Harper Grace and Gideon Scott, 12, whom they welcomed via a surrogate in October 2010. 

Harris and Burtka were in high spirits as they celebrated their unending love with a heartfelt post dedicated to one another on their cherished wedding anniversary.

Harris took to his Instagram to post a lovely picture of the pair taken on their wedding day, alongside a delightful caption that read, ''What a life. What a journey with you. That we got married! Nine years ago, on this very day! Thanks for saying 'I do.' Thanks for all of it. @dbelicious.''

In the striking photo, the couple had a triumphant look on their faces as they pledged to be each other's soulmates. They had bright smiles plastered on their faces as Butka affectionately leaned into Harris, holding onto his arm.

They both donned white buttoned-up collared shirts with black bow ties for their joyous occasion. Harris complemented his outfit by wearing a black waistcoat. The ''Uncoupled'' actor's post received over 200k likes, with thousands of fans trooping to the comments section to praise the couple.

One fan wrote, ''Beautiful legends happy anniversary ??❤.'' Another penned, ''LOVE IS SIMPLY AMAZING…I WANT THAT!!!❤❤.'' A third fan added, ''Happy Anniversary & many more! ???.'' Burtka also celebrated his and Harris' ninth wedding anniversary on his page, sharing a photo of the duo posing on a mountain surrounded by green grasses. Harris donned a suspender suit, which he paired with a floral print buttoned-up shirt, a black tie, and a black bowler hat.

On the other hand, Burtka opted for an all-black ensemble consisting of a T-shirt and pants. In the photo, Harris passionately planted a kiss on his husband's cheek. Burtka, who is a professional chef and an actor, captioned the post, writing, ''Happy Anniversary!! 9 years ago I married the love of my life… love is timeless!! @nph.''

His post was well-received by fans, who bombarded his comments section with congratulatory messages. One Instagram user wrote, ''Happy Anniversary you two. You both deserve all the happiness.. Two great people.''

Interestingly, the couple's romance came to be after they kickstarted their relationship as friends. The pair first met on a street corner in 2004 and soon became more than friends, going to the movies for their first date.

In 2006, Harris publicly came out as gay in an exclusive interview with People. He said, ''I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest and feel most fortunate to be working with wonderful people in the business I love.''

In 2007, Harris confirmed that he was in a relationship on ''The Ellen DeGeneres Show,'' without mentioning the name of his partner. However, on September 16 of that same year, the ''Gone Girl'' actor and Burtka made their first joint red carpet appearance at the 2007 ''Emmy Awards.''

In August 2010, the pair announced that they were expecting twins via a surrogate and later welcomed their babies on October 12, 2010.  Four years later, after welcoming their children, they got married in a private ceremony in Italy and looked dashing on that day, wearing custom suits made by 'Tom Ford.

Back in June, the couple had cause to celebrate as Harris commemorated another trip around the sun with the love of his life by his side.

Burtka made a thoughtful Instagram post to celebrate his husband, with a series of photos, featuring himself and Harris. In the first photo, the pair was captured smiling on a boat. The second photo revealed a younger Harris, holding a birthday cake with a cheesy smile.

Captioning his adorable post, Burtka penned, ''I can not believe you are 50!! Happy Birthday. You still look so damn hot. You continue to surprise me on how amazing you are. As we both grow older, our connection gets deeper and our love grows stronger. Let's keep laughing through the next 50.''

The celebrant appreciated his lover's post by leaving his response in the comments. Harris wrote, ''You're the best. Thanks, my sweet husband! What you've done for my birthday has been remarkable. Love you!"
