On Wednesday, August 30, the author of “No Filter: The Good, The Bad, and The Beautiful” took to Instagram to share negative comments about her appearance that she has received on her posts. “She looks 75 years old, no less… my 83 year old grandma looked like this,” one user commented.

“She looks old for 58,” another netizen wrote. “Very wrinkled for somebody that was in the beauty and fashion industry,” another commented. “You were the most beautiful model. But why should you let go! At least do something about your hair,” another netizen chimed in.

“For all the thousands of lovely comments- there are also plenty of these,” Paulina wrote in the caption of her Instagram post. “Apparently I look seventy and - over. In some way, I get it. Women in the public eye with wrinkles do not exist until they hit their seventies.”

“This is what my hashtag of ‘between Jlo and Betty White’ is all about- this precipice we fall into as aging women,” she explained. “It seems online you’re a smooth youthful woman until you fall off a cliff- and resurface as a crone. That is, the wrinkled white haired bonafide old woman.”

“There is no actual representation of an aging process. I suspect this is why these people need to tell me how very old I look,” she added. “I myself am actually not entirely sure what a woman my age is ‘supposed’ to look like. I only know how I look.” She capped off her post with the hashtags “Between JLo and Betty White,” “Older Is Bolder,” and “No Filter.”

Fans had a variety of reactions to Paulina’s post, but most, if not all of them, were supportive. “From childhood, people are brainwashed to do absolutely anything (and buy every product/service) to look as young and fit as possible. Being happy as we are - even as we age or gain/lose weight or wear whatever we want - threatens that brainwashing and upsets people and this indignant, critical reaction is the result,” one fan commented. “I feel sorry for people who can’t think for themselves. They will never know true peace.”

“Those comments break my heart. Bunch of mean girls….. I for one am grateful for your honest posts! I’m not far behind you at 53 and grew up wanting to be you,” another follower wrote. “You are an inspiration and a very beautiful woman inside and out. I love that you read and answer the comments personally and that you call out the bullies. So unnecessary to be unkind. Don’t let them get to you.”

“Paulina, try to ignore those negative comments from the trolls. In my opinion, you are more beautiful than ever before. We, your fans and friends, love your natural beauty,” another fan wrote. “You look like an angel and that is the only truth,” another follower agreed.

“Humans haunt me. You look fabulous. It is projection. How they wish they looked like you,” a third fan chimed in. “That’s all just chatter … for anyone who feels the need to criticize… they should take a long, long look in their own mirror and check their moral compass as well… Cheers to you for always keeping it real and real beautiful inside and out,” another follower shared.

“Petty cowardly people with a very nasty streak hiding behind a mobile phone screen / they would not say this to you in person, in front of someone else. And it is also patently not true. You are vibrant, beautiful, alive, and engaging,” another fan chimed in, to which another follower exclaimed, “EXACTLY what I came here to say!!”
