The extraordinary Zendaya shares some insight into her relationship with retired fashion stylist Lawrence "Law" Roach, whom she has worked with since 2011.
As fans know, Roach, who has styled several big names in the industry like Celine Dion and Anya Taylor-Joy, announced his retirement from styling back in March on Instagram.
However, despite his retirement, he still plays a role in dressing Zendaya up, which the "Dune" actress recently divulged, maintaining that he would always contribute to her style.
Zendaya Says Law Roach Is On Board With 'Everything I Do' Despite Retirement
As Zendaya's career progressed, not just in entertainment, so did Roach's, who impacted her fashion game over the years,
Hence, when the "Legendary" star retired, fans were concerned due to a viral video from earlier in March where Roach looked confused searching for a seat beside Zendaya at Louis Vuitton's Paris Fashion Week runway show.
Viewers assumed the "Spiderman" actress' body language implied she disregarded him, prompting speculations about a possible split between the duo. Roach eventually addressed the rumors, insisting their relationship remained strong. However, that didn't stop the rumor mills from spinning.
Finally, the 26-year-old, in her latest ELLE Magazine feature, broke her silence on the viral moment, confirming her longtime stylist's words. "When it happened, I said, 'Oh no, I hope people don't try to create something from this,'" she explained.
She recalled the show similarly to Roach, recalling that the duo was delayed in traffic and had to rush to the front row at the event, where they tried to find his designated seat. The viral clip lacked audio but showed the Disney alum pointing to a row behind her, which viewers thought was a suggestion for the celebrity stylist. However, it was to her assistant, Darnell.
"We're so used to sitting together that he didn't know where to go," Zendaya explained. "But obviously, people want to assume the worst of the situation, which is not always easy to deal with and hurtful."
Despite the seating controversy, the Deliciously Vintage boutique owner proclaimed that Zendaya has never ceased to support him. He shared with the magazine,
"I'm grateful that people like the work and understand the story. And I'm grateful for her giving me the opportunity to shine. It's not often that such a big superstar like that is very generous and understanding when someone wants to basically step out. She's been one of my biggest supporters."
While fans assume Zendaya may have caused Roach's retirement, she disclosed that he is still involved in her life and continues to style her. According to the Emmy Award winner:
"I ride super hard for my team, especially for people I love. He's involved in every fashion contract, everything I do. If I have an opportunity where he can come with me, he's always going to be there."
She added, "He's always been my creative director in a sense, and he continues to fill that role because it's more than just clothes on a red carpet. It's a bigger thing."
He also confirmed to the magazine that he had become Zendaya's creative director, adding, "Our relationship is like family, so I don't think I'm going anywhere — and even if I wanted to, she wouldn't let me."
The 'Euphoria' Star & Roach Rocked Matching Looks At First Red-Carpet Event Following Retirement
A month after Roach announced his retirement, he and Zendaya graced the opening of Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in Mumbai in coordinating Indian couture outfits on the red carpet.
As seen on the Chicago native's Instagram, the "Malcolm & Marie" actress wore a purple shimmering custom sari-inspired dress while her companion rocked a black two-piece floral floor-length gown.
Roach felt honored to be invited to the event and expressed so in the caption, adding, "I took my main girl to Mumbai!" He also dubbed Zendaya his "stylist" in another post featuring her adjusting his serpent-shaped Bulgari necklace.
The outing came on the heels of the Gem Award winner shedding light on how the "Watch Me" songstress took the news of his retirement. He opened up in an episode of Emily Ratajkowski's "High Low With Emrata" podcast, saying "it was tough for her."
Roach further clarified that he announced his leave before discussing it with Zendaya. However, she supported him and even asked if he wanted a vacation while letting him know she was always there for him.
