Sam Asghari Breaks Silence On Britney Spears Divorce: 'Sh*t Happens'

Actor Sam Asghari is finally speaking out following the news that he filed for divorce from pop star Britney Spears on Wednesday night.

The 29-year-old actor cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split after fourteen months of marriage. The couple first met on the set of her "Slumber Party" music video in 2016 and became engaged in September 2021, only weeks before her conservatorship ended in November 2021. The two later tied the knot in a star-studded ceremony at her Thousand Oaks estate in California in June 2022.

On Thursday afternoon, the actor took to his Instagram Stories to leave a short message for fans of the couple. “After 6 years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together,” he wrote. “We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always. Sh*t happens. Asking for privacy seems [ridiculous] so I will just ask for everyone including media to be kind and thoughtful.”

The actor had previously announced that he took a break from social media two weeks ago, following his mother’s “major accident” that landed her in the emergency room. “I'm so Grateful for the love and support you guys had during Mama Asghari's recovery after the accident,” he wrote on Instagram at the time. “Sending a huge thank you to the amazing medical staff at Cedars-Sinai ER. Moments like these remind us of life's preciousness. Taking a social media break to prioritize what truly matters. See you very soon.”

Although the media couldn't keep up with headlines surrounding the singer's separation, and later divorce, from the "Special Ops: Lioness" actor, Britney seemed completely unbothered by news of the divorce, which seems to have been coming for a while. The former couple was photographed without wedding rings in March and the two appeared to be distant with one another in photographs taken during a recent trip to Mexico.

Instead of discussing the divorce, Britney took to Instagram on Wednesday night to reveal that she was planning on buying two horses that she planned to name Sophie and Roar. "Buying a horse soon ? !!! So many options it’s kinda hard !!! A horse called Sophie and another called Roar ? ???" she wrote in the caption. "I can’t make up my mind ? !!! Should I join the camaraderie and put a pink cowboy hat on ? ??? Either way I think I found my sweet spot with Roar ? !!!"

Britney has yet to react to Sam's latest statement about the divorce, which follows allegations that she left him with bruises and bite marks after a physical altercation and claims that Sam saw a video of her cheating on him with an employee that worked in their home.

It appears that Britney might not have had a strong reaction to the divorce because she knew it was coming for a while. The actor listed the date of separation as July 28, 2023, which is almost three weeks ago. In court documents obtained by The Blast, the actor requested spousal support and attorneys fees, and hinted that he planned on contesting their prenup.

In the legal filing, Sam wrote that he “has yet to determine the full nature and extent of the separate property assets and obligations of each party.” It goes on to say, “There are various items of community and quasi-community assets and debts, the full nature and extent of which are unknown to [Sam] at this time.”

On Wednesday night, a source told Page Six that the 29-year-old actor is reportedly “attempting to negotiate concessions beyond his prenup and threatening to go public with extraordinarily embarrassing information about Britney unless he gets paid.” Britney's lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, had hired a family lawyer to draft a prenup to protect her assets ahead of their marriage.

Interestingly enough, actressOctavia Spencer started trending on Thursday. In September 2021, she had warned Britney to “sign a prenup” following news of their engagement. Although she felt forced to apologize due to the backlash at the time, fans are now realizing that she might have been right all along.
