Singer Britney Spears and her husband, Iranian actor Sam Asghari, are headed for divorce only 14 months after tying the knot.
There have been multiple reports of conflict for the past several months and the two were even photographed without their wedding rings earlier in the year. Although the former personal trainer reportedly removed his ring for a movie role, it is unclear why the "Toxic" singer would have removed hers.
That being said, she was photographed without her wedding ring again on Wednesday, August 16, shortly before news that she and her husband were about to split made headlines.
Britney Spears Spotted Without Wedding Ring Ahead of Impending Divorce From Sam Asghari
On Wednesday, TMZ was the first to report that Sam and Britney were going their separate ways. They claimed that Sam accused Britney of infidelity, although it's unclear if there is any truth to the rumor.
Regardless, the allegations reportedly led to a huge fight between the couple and Sam reportedly walked out. A source told the outlet that “It’s only a matter of time before Sam files for divorce.”
Another source told Page Six later on Wednesday night that the"Gimme More" singer had hired high-power divorce lawyer Laura Wasser to represent her amid the split. One source told ET that Sam had already filed for divorce from the pop star, adding, "The two haven’t got along for a while and it finally came to an end after a major blowup.”
Even later on Wednesday night, TMZ reported that the 41-year-old pop star was spotted driving around without her wedding ring earlier in the day. Britney was photographed driving around in her Mercedes early on Wednesday wearing a pair of sunglasses and no wedding ring.
Britney Often Finds Solace Driving Around In Her Car
In December 2022, the "Baby One More Time" singer called her car her "spaceship" and likened driving around to a "spiritual" experience in a since-deleted Instagram post. It appears that the incident was also prompted by a fight with the actor, as she claimed that Sam "hates" her meditation practice.
Britney began her post by writing, “I’m that meditation b—- now 🧘🏼♀️… my husband hates it … he thinks I’ve gone bonkers."
"I say all this because I try to make an effort to take care of myself,” she continued. “Normally I forget to eat … I wait way too long and I’m too sensitive so if anything goes wrong at the house it’s like the world has ended.”
It appears that the comments about her meditation might have resulted in a fight that caused Britney to leave the house in tears. “So l got in my car yesterday and I cried … I cried so d— hard but geez, my car is my spaceship 🚀 … it’s where I have my best interests, thoughts, creative urges, ideas, it’s spiritual … totally spiritual and we’re all in this together on the road,” she wrote at the time.
“So I don’t feel alone unless those big 18 wheelers come by and hog the road and I want to s— on myself … but it’s me time … my own inner thoughts,” she added.
Sam Asghari Is Reportedly Planning To Expose 'Embarrassing' Secrets About Britney
On Wednesday night, a source told Page Six that the 29-year-old actor may be willing to play dirty in the divorce. One insider claimed that the actor is reportedly “attempting to negotiate concessions beyond his prenup and threatening to go public with extraordinarily embarrassing information about Britney unless he gets paid.”
Another insider who talked to Page Six on Wednesday night confirmed that “Britney and Sam signed a prenup in her favor,” adding, “Any money she made before the wedding is protected.” Britney's attorney, Matthew Rosengart, reportedly hired a family lawyer to draft the prenup to protect her assets.
Ahead of her marriage, Britney's finances were largely controlled by her father during a conservatorship that lasted from February 2008 to November 2021. Britney and Sam started dating in 2016 after they met on the set of her "Slumber Party" music video. He popped the question in September 2021, only two months before a judge struck down her controversial conservatorship. The two tied the knot in June 2022 during a star-studded wedding ceremony in the backyard of her Thousand Oaks estate.
Neither Britney Spears nor Sam Asghari has commented on the news of their separation; however, Sam did say that he was going to take a break from social media to take care of his mother following her "major accident" earlier this month.
