Singer Britney Spears is reportedly open to sitting down with Oprah Winfrey for a new tell-all interview ahead of the release of her memoir, "The Woman In Me."
The 41-year-old pop star has not given any public interviews about her conservatorship, which lasted from February 2008 to November 2021. However, it seems that could change this year.
Britney Spears Reportedly Ready To Share Her Story In A Tell-All Interview With Oprah Winfrey
On Sunday morning, Britney Spears started trending following the news that an insider told The Sun that she was planning on sitting down with Oprah Winfrey ahead of the release of her memoir in October. Sources revealed that the pop star has been offered "significant financial sums" in order to talk about her life story before her memoir is released.
The insider even revealed that Oprah had initially reached out to her in 2021 after her conservatorship had ended. However, the source said that the "Toxic" singer turned down the offer because she was "still coming to terms with independent life and mentally processing her freedom." However, they went on to say that Britney is "in a different place" now and might be willing to share her story on camera.
"The [interview] proposal remains complicated for Britney who continues to face challenges speaking to strangers at length about intimate aspects of her life," the source revealed. "The trauma didn't go away overnight just because the conservatorship ended. Some days can be extremely testing and conversations can trigger her to behave unusually or even erratically."
"Certainly, putting a TV lens on her could be problematic and it means that a proper news-style interview is out of the question," they continued. "However, a more feature-style interview, allowing her and the team to have control is an option. A move like that, to work with a production company or someone like Oprah, would be her strongest play, but the reality is managing Britney's mental well-being and health in the process."
They revealed that the decision to talk about her life on camera is up to Britney and no one else. The tell-all interview, if it happens, will reportedly cover everything from her parents' control over her personal and financial affairs during the conservatorship to her high-profile relationships with Justin Timberlake and Kevin Federline. Her conservatorship is also expected to be heavily touched on, as is her mental health.
Britney's Mom and Sister Are Reportedly Unaware Of What's Written About Them In Her Memoir
The outlet previously reported that the pop star has not shared any details about the memoir with her mother, Lynne Spears, or her sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, even though the family seems to be working to make amends. An insider told the outlet that Britney "has not told her mom, Lynne, the full extent of what is written about their family and past dramas in her upcoming memoir. Lynne is unaware of the entirety of the subject matters covered by her daughter, despite the couple talking again."
"Britney has kept her cards close to her chest about what is in the memoir," they continued. “She has been chomping at the bit to present her experiences of becoming famous and what role her parents played - and Lynne is being kept in the dark about what Britney will say about their relationship." Sources say that her publicist at Simon and Schuster have also warned Britney to "keep her talk about her experiences in the book just to those closest in her life."
One insider claims that Britney has only spoken to her husband, Iranian actor Sam Asghari, her agent, and ghostwriter Sam Lansky about what she wrote about in "The Woman In Me" ahead of its highly anticipated release. A family friend told the outlet that they expect Britney to have written candidly about her father and expect what she said is going to "ruffle feathers."
“Britney doesn’t want to sugarcoat her tough family dynamics. For almost two decades Britney feels that her parents have run the narrative about her life, and now it’s her turn to put her version out to the world," the source warned. "Britney made it clear to her mother that she wants to have her version of her life put out publicly after so long seeing others talking about her. However just where it leaves the mother and daughter relationship after the book release is still to be determined."
The source actually had nothing but positive things to say about her mother, Lynne Spears. “Lynne was by her side for most of her early career as a kid to becoming the world’s biggest pop star as a teen," the source told the outlet. “Britney has expressed differing opinions on those moments to friends for the past couple of decades - both positive and negative."
“She recalled how Lynne gave up her life to back her dream and supported her during failed auditions and teen love woes," they continued. “But after 2004, Britney pushed away from her career, began partying, and actively distanced herself from her parents, which led to huge arguments."
“Everything exploded after her infamous meltdowns, which led to Lynne agreeing for Britney to be placed on a hospital mental evaluation hold and then backing the conservatorship," they went on. "At times, Britney admitted she was ‘terrified’ about what her family could do to her. What Britney has to say about her breakdown and conservatorship [in her memoir] is likely to be seismic.”
The source went on to say that there are "many bridges to cross until they are full friends," while a family friend claimed, "There are many levels of drama bubbling away between them, despite a desire for peace." Although it looks like Britney might be able to repair her relationship with her mother, a source said that Britney wants to "expose" her father for the "control and abuse" she allegedly suffered during her conservatorship.
The senior vice president of Gallery Books, Jennifer Bergstrom, had nothing but positive things to say about her memoir. "Britney’s compelling testimony in open court shook the world, changed laws, and showed her inspiring strength and bravery. I have no doubt her memoir will have a similar impact — and will be the publishing event of the year," she told the outlet. "We couldn’t be more proud to help her share her story at last."
Britney Spears' memoir, "The Woman In Me," will hit bookshelves on October 24.
