Margot Robbie may have been the perfect Barbie for Greta Gerwig and the audience alike, but she did not really want to play the role. In fact, she thought Gal Gadot would be the perfect Barbie and had a “dorky” reason behind her thought process.

Margot Robbie Felt Gal Gadot Was “Dorky” Enough To Be Barbie

When Margot Robbie first began to envision “Barbie” the movie, upselling it to Mattel and Warner Bros as a movie that will make a billion dollars (which it did), she just wanted to make the movie. As a producer, she’s the one who roped in Greta Gerwig, who then wrote a script, imagining Robbie as the perfect stereotypical Barbie.

In a near Babylonian twist of events, nobody was available to take on Barbie. There were previous attempts though, with the likes of Amy Schumer and Anne Hathaway. As a producer, Robbie felt Barbie was going to be a sell-out so when all other projects crashed, she took it on.

That said, she was still looking for the perfect Barbie, and the only actress she saw with proper Barbie “energy” was Gal Gadot. Robbie admitted, speaking to Vogue, “Gal Gadot is Barbie energy. Because Gal Gadot is so impossibly beautiful, but you don’t hate her for being that beautiful, because she’s so genuinely sincere, and she’s so enthusiastically kind, that it’s almost dorky.”

Of course, Robbie meant it as the ultimate compliment when she extolled Gadot’s beauty, saying, “It’s like right before being a dork.”

That said, Gadot wasn’t available. While Robbie and Gerwig did find their Barbies in Issa Rae, Hari Nef, Emma Mackey, Dua Lipa, Sharon Rooney, Ana Cruz Kayne, Alexandra Shipp, Kate McKinnon, and others, they still needed lead Barbie. Gerwig was adamant, as Robbie recalls, “She was like, ‘No, I really wanna write this for you. And she wrote me an amazing part, so I’m very grateful.”

So is the audience!

While Gadot could not star in “Barbie” and “Wonder Woman 3” also seems to be in limbo, she’s still one busy woman. Her recent Netflix movie, “ Hearts of Stone” seems well-received and as per an interview in Flaunt magazine, she just wrapped up playing Disney villain, The Evil Queen, in a new musical adaptation of Snow White. Apparently, Gadot found the “evilness” of the role “delightful and delicious” to play.

When the topic of Margot Robbie wanting her to play Barbie came up, Gal Gadot was all praise, saying. “I adore Margot. [She] is one of those women who you just want to be friends with.”

Gadot continues saying that she saw her “the other week” gushing, “She is so funny, warm, fun and smart and obviously so talented. She brings so much to the table. I would love to do anything with Margot and was very touched [by her comments]. She warmed my heart with everything that she said about me. I’m super excited for them, and I’m so excited for Barbie.”

We are excited about Gal Gadot, period!

Gadot recently made some comments about “Wonder Woman 3” saying, “I was invited to a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran, and what they told me, and I’m quoting: ‘You’re in the best hands. We’re going to develop Wonder Woman 3 with you. [We] love you as Wonder Woman— you’ve got nothing to worry about.’ So time will tell.”

That said as per fresh information, it seems this might not quite be the case. As per Variety magazine, sources say a third “Wonder Woman” film is not in development at DC Studios. Further, the source alleges that Gunn and Safran have no plans at this time for any “Wonder Woman” project in the new DC Universe other than their previously announced “Paradise Lost” prequel series for Max. That said, with the SAG-AFTRA strike in full force, this is not the right time to announce or even sign new projects, precisely why a sequel to “Barbie” also remains in limbo.

Perhaps Gadot could be Barbie now?
