Alex Rodriguez looks to be nearing his next contract with Fox Sports, says The Hollywood Reporter. Under the new broadcast deal, the MLB broadcaster, analyst, and former player would work exclusively for Fox, ending his deal as an alternate broadcaster for ESPN after the end of this season.
It also looks like the contract will potentially land the former player a huge payout.
Alex Rodriguez Circling New Deal For Fox Sports
Under the new deal, the MLB all-star and World Series champion would keep him on as an analyst for major MLB games for Fox for many years to come. Rodriguez is currently a major part of the Fox Sports studio team, working with Kevin Burkhardt, all-star and world champion Derek Jeter, and David "Big Papi" Ortiz. Jeter and Rodriguez previously played together with the New York Yankees.
While the terms of the Fox Sports deal are unknown, THR notes that it is the most lucrative deal ever for an MLB broadcast analyst, and it's for a term of more than three years. Rodriguez currently performs double duty as an MLB studio analyst for Fox Sports and also on the ESPN "KayRod" alternate broadcast for "Sunday Night Baseball" with Michael Kay.
If the new Fox Sports deal goes through, it would be an exclusive one, so Rodriguez would be leaving ESPN after the current season ends. Rodriguez has been part of the "Sunday Night Baseball" broadcast team since 2018. He's been part of the Fox Sports studio team as a full-time analyst since 2017, and he's been working the playoff games for Fox in 2015 and 2016.
The Fox MLB studio show is known for its slate of broadcasters with both on-field success and close friendships behind-the-scenes. Ortiz and Rodriguez have reportedly been close friends for some time, and Rodriguez and Jeter renewed their friendship in recent years while working together. Jeter joined the Fox Sports team earlier this year.
Fox Sports has routinely been hiring superstar athletes who are also skilled at broadcasting for their sports coverage. The network also recently brought on NFL great Tom Brady for their NFL broadcast coverage. Some of the former NFL stars on their broadcast team include Michael Strahan and Rob Gronkowski.
Rodriguez retired from playing in the MLB in 2016. He recently partnered with Marc Lore to buy the NBA team the Minnesota Timberwolves. He is currently reportedly dating fitness trainer and model Jaclyn Cordeiro. Cordeiro is also an entrepreneur and CEO of her own fitness program, JackFit. She's also a registered nurse with a Master's Degree in Nutrition and a single mother of two kids.
Rodriguez previously dated actress and singer Jennifer Lopez for several years. However, the two ended their relationship together in early 2021.
With the MLB playoff season right around the corner, it will likely be a major signing for Fox Sports to reveal they have Rodriguez under contract for a huge multi-year deal. It will also likely put viewers and fans of the MLB studio team at ease to know that Rodriguez is liked down for the coming years.
