After giving no response, McConnell was escorted away from the cameras but later returned for the Q&A session.

It was later explained by one of his aides that the Kentucky Republican only "felt lightheaded" and needed to "step away for a moment."

"He came back to handle Q and A, which, as everyone observed, was sharp," the aide added.

The politician himself also told reporters that he was "fine" when he was probed about the circumstance that led to his freeze.

This recent shocking incident comes after the 81-year-old suffered a fall earlier in the year during a visit to the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Washington, DC.

Per CNN, McConnell was at the establishment for a dinner organized by the Senate Leadership Fund, a super PAC that invests in his campaign.

After the fall, he was then hospitalized and treated for a concussion, as seen in a statement released by his communications David Popp at the time. He remained in the hospital for "a few days of observation and treatment" before going to rehab for several weeks.

Shockingly, this was not the first time McConnell suffered a severe fall that led to him being out of commission for a while.

These incidents, especially the recent fall, have led to concerns about the status of McConnell's health.

It has also spurred questions about whether the current Senate Minority Leader will be fit enough to run again when re-election comes in 2026 or throw in his hat to return as GOP leader for the next congress in 2025.

However, despite repeated inquiries from the media, McConnell has managed to keep his intentions concealed for undisclosed reasons.

An example of this was during a May interview with CNN, where he brushed off reporters' questions on the matter.

"I thought this was not an interview about my future," he said at the time. "I thought it was an interview about the 2024 Senate."
