This Is Why Fans Are Still Mad At Gigi Hadid Thought Marijuana Was Legal!

Gigi Hadid has been all over the news over her purported use of marijuana, her "arrest" and subsequent fine.

The model and mama have gamely moved on, but fans want to rehash it all, especially slamming her for doing the same thing her family once blamed someone special in her life for. Here's the scoop...

Earlier yesterday, news broke that the supermodel's trip to the sun and sand-filled Cayman Islands hit a sour patch when she got arrested for cannabis possession. The older of the famous Hadid sisters got into trouble when her private plane arrived at the Owen Roberts International Airport on July 10.

As per a report by TMZ, when her bags passed through a scanner, authorities spotted something, and then the Customs & Border Control officials physically searched the bag as well. They discovered a small amount of weed and other paraphernalia. While the authorities did decide that the marijuana, or "ganja" as it's called, as well as the smoking utensils, were for personal use, Hadid and her friend were still arrested on charges of the importation of marijuana and the importation of utensils to smoke cannabis.

She was processed at the Royal Cayman Islands Detention Center and soon posted bail, awaiting further action on the drug possession case. Since she had a medical license for the use, she was let off with a $1,000 fine which she paid, upon which the 28-year-old mom posted an update for her fans on Instagram.

Well, mostly, for Zayn Malik. Apparently, social media users are dubbing Gigi Hadid a hypocrite, given that long back, when she and Zayn were at loggerheads and he even ended up "physically assaulting" her mom, Yolanda Hadid, her family called for him to be admitted into rehab on grounds of alleged excessive marijuana use. At the time, when Zayn was being ripped apart by her family, social media users remember her for mostly keeping mum about it all, and the couple broke up for good, despite sharing a daughter, Khai.

Malik recently opened up about that infamous 2021 incident on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast, and this is what he had to say about it, "I knew what the situation was, I knew what happened, and the people involved knew what happened too and that's all I really cared about. If anybody of a sane mind would look at the situation, I believe you could respect that I just didn't want to bring attention to anything, y'know? I wasn't trying to get into a negative back and forth with her."

Wrote an Instagram user, "Well now she knows how it feels when she sided with her mom about Zayn. Give full custody to Zayn!" Another chimed, "Her mother thinks Zayn was the problem."

Back in 2021, Zayn Malik pled no contest to harassing Yolanda who claimed that he had shoved her into a dresser. Fans were divided back then too, and now is no different with one Twitter user making another dig altogether, writing, "Yolanda must be horrified; weed gives you an appetite. Her children aren’t allowed to eat."

Meanwhile, Gigi Hadid remains cool and is having a great time on her vacation, as is clear from her social media. Right after the news of her arrest, Hadid posted a few snaps on her Instagram story, clad in a tiny green bikini.

She's gotten celebrity support as well, with Kate Hudson sending her a red heart emoji and Selma Blair also commenting: "Those college girls on the track team!"

Plenty of other fans stood in staunch support as well with one seeing the humor, "She winning the idgaf war lmao."

More slammed the haters who tried to judge for smoking pot while being a mother! Wrote one fed-up fan, "Y’all she got the weed legally in NYC & with a medical prescription for it. cayman islands have allowed the medical use of weed since 2017. She only got a fine because her prescription wasn’t from there."

Either way, Gigi Hadid is living the good life, so that's that.
