Although Victor Wembanyama previously claimed that Britney Spears "grabbed" him outside the Catch restaurant at the ARIA hotel in Las Vegas on Wednesday night, a new video has proved that it was, in fact, a tap.
In a statement on Thursday, the rising NBA star said that he was "grabbed" by the singer. In her own statement, the 41-year-old pop star claimed that she only "tapped" him. Now that the Metropolitan Police Department has decided not to press charges, the video has come out, showing who was telling the truth.
Britney Spears Was NOT Lying When She Said She Tapped Victor Wembanyama, New Video Shows
On Wednesday night, Britney was out and about in Las Vegas when she spotted the 19-year-old athlete and walked up to him to snap a photo. He said she grabbed him, she said she tapped him, but it ultimately led to her being "backhanded" by one of his security guards.
In a video obtained by TMZ on Friday, fans can hear Britney approaching him just outside the restaurant, saying, "Sir, Sir!" in a British accent, as one eyewitness previously claimed. She then reaches up and taps him on the left shoulder. The video does not support Victor's claim that she "grabbed" him.
Victor's security guard then slaps her hand. It's not clear in the video if his hand struck her face, or if pushing her hand away from him caused her to hit her own face. Regardless, the slap is audible and Britney's glasses went flying off. However, she did not fall, as some reports indicated.
In a British accent, Britney can be heard screaming, "That's America for you. F--- you all." After that, Britney reportedly went back to her table. An eyewitness told TMZ this morning that Britney's security team brought the bodyguard who slapped her over to her table to apologize. According to the eyewitness, Britney was “in shock” and “angry” and went to the bathroom following the encounter.
This Is What Happened In Britney's Own Words
On Thursday night, Britney took to Instagram to share her side of the story.
“I recognized an athlete in my hotel lobby as I was heading to dinner. I later went to a restaurant at a different hotel and saw him again,” she explained. “I decided to approach him and congratulate him on his success. It was really loud, so I tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention.”
“I am aware of the players [sic] statement where he mentions ‘I grabbed him from behind’ but I simply tapped him on the shoulder,” she wrote. “His security then back handed me in the face without looking back, in front of a crowd. Nearly knocking me down and causing my glasses off my face.”

Shortly before Britney posted her statement on social media, Victor Wembanyama spoke out about the incident in a video shared by KENS reporter Nate Ryan on Twitter.
“Something did happen a little bit when I was walking with some security of the team to some restaurant. We were in a hall and there were a lot of people so people were calling me obviously,” he said, noting that although “one person” called his name repeatedly, his security team told him not to stop.
"That person grabbed me from behind," Victor said. "I didn't see what happened because I was walking straight and they told me 'Don't stop.' But that person grabbed me from behind, grabbed on my shoulder. She grabbed me from behind so I just know that the security pushed her away."
"I don't know with how much force but security pushed her away. I didn't stop to look so I kept walking and enjoyed a nice dinner,” he added, mentioning that he “didn’t know” that the woman who he alleged “grabbed” him was really Britney Spears “for a couple of hours.”
Britney later amended her Instagram statement, adding, "I also don't appreciate nor do I think this is a laughing matter. Watching the player smile and laugh was cruel and demoralizing with the situation that took place," she wrote, reminding her fans, "I am 5'3 and he's 7'4..."
