Alec Baldwin Says His ‘Faith’ Sustains Him During ‘The Toughest Times’

Actor Alec Baldwin is opening up on his faith in a new video posted to Instagram on Saturday.

The actor thanked God, his family, and his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, for helping him get through "the toughest times." The 65-year-old actor sat down in front of his 2.5 million Instagram followers in a video that featured him listening to the music of a gospel hymn.

The video began with music playing in the background as the “30 Rock” actor sat in front of the camera. The music gets louder and louder as the actor sits on the couch and listens to the music, which soon reveals itself to be a gospel hymn.

In the caption of his Instagram post, the “Supercell” actor wrote, “Sometimes, my faith is the one thing that helped to sustain me during the toughest times. And gratitude for all that God has given me. Most of all, my wife [Hilaria Baldwin], our 7 children, and Ireland and her new family, all of whom have all of my heart.” Baldwin has eight children total but shares seven with Hilaria, including a daughter named Ilaria whom he welcomed last September.

Ireland Baldwin, the 27-year-old daughter that the actor shares with his ex-wife, Kim Basinger, recently welcomed her first child with her longtime boyfriend, RAC. “God has been good to me. And I hope that, in the coming years, my family and I will have the chance to give back some of what God has provided for us,” Baldwin added.

Many fans showed support for the actor and the music that played in the background of the video. “Love Elvis' gospel. He loved the Lord and you could tell when he was in the throes of his worst times, singing these old songs touched him so deeply. He loved the harmony of those old guys....so endearing,” one fan commented,” another follower wrote.

“Your faith is a beautiful thing — hopefully your children will get this gift as well. It’s hard as parents to pass it down without feeling like we are pushing it too hard onto them. Keep speaking of your faith. Jesus is always with us in our joy and our pain, he knows all,” another fan chimed in.

“Family is what it's about the memories as we grow older. The sound of our kids and grandkids' names will bring back a memory that makes us smile,” another follower shared. “You’re a good man Alec. Wish you nothing but the best, to you and your family,” another fan wrote.

In January 2023, both Alec Baldwin and “Rust” armorerHannah Gutierrez-Reed faced two counts of involuntary manslaughter for the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins at the Bonanza Creek Ranch in New Mexico on October 21, 2021.

Although the charges against Gutierrez-Reed were not dropped and the preliminary hearing has been postponed to August, the charges against the 65-year-old actor were dismissed in April as special prosecutors continued to investigate the shooting.

Special prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis warned Baldwin at the time that their decision to drop the charges against him did not “absolve” him of culpability in Hutchins’ passing. “This decision does not absolve Mr. Baldwin of criminal culpability and charges may be refiled,” they said in a statement at the time. “Our follow-up investigation will remain active and on-going.”

In court documents obtained by The Blast earlier this month, they revealed the gun might have malfunctioned during filming; however, the “sear of the gun used in the killing of Ms. Hutchins was broken during testing at the FBI.” Prosecutors allege that “No one from the prosecution team (current or past) was notified or asked for comment prior to this decision being made.”

Although it might be impossible to determine if the gun malfunctioned or if Baldwin pulled the trigger (something that he has denied many times) due to the damage from FBI testing, prosecutors have still sent the gun in for further testing.

They go on to state that “The charges against Alec Baldwin were dismissed without prejudice because a possible malfunction of the gun significantly affects causation with regards to Baldwin, not with regard to Gutierrez. If it is determined that the gun did not malfunction, charges against Mr. Baldwin will proceed."

They went on to say that "The prosecution anticipates making a final charging decision with regard to Mr. Baldwin within the next sixty days.”
