Nick & Aaron Carter's sister, Bobbie Jean, has landed in legal hot waters.
Police busted the 41-year-old after she allegedly shoplifted some items from an arts and crafts store in Florida over the last weekend. Her situation quickly escalated after a potent synthetic opioid drug was found in her possession.
Bobbie Jean Carter Was Placed On Bond After Getting Arrested For Shoplifting
Bobbie Jean was arrested and charged with one count of retail theft and possession of fentanyl on Saturday in Hernando County, Florida. Her problems began after she was caught stealing stickers and other crafts items worth $55 from a Hobby Lobby in Brooksfield, Florida, prompting the store's loss prevention team to call the appropriate authorities.
According to police reports obtained by Page Six, she was escorted by police into an office where she allegedly "grabbed her purse in panic, removing a powder-blue container and tossing it underneath the LP (loss prevention) desk." The case is said to have held 0.8 grams of purple powder and 1.3 grams of white powder.
It was later confirmed, through a field test, that fentanyl was present in the purple powder. Bobbie Jean was then reportedly taken into custody and promptly placed on suicide watch following her alleged threats to "kill" herself on her way to jail.
The outlet reiterated that her arrest record shows she was charged with one count of retail theft [shoplifting] and felony possession of a controlled substance [fentanyl]. Bobbie Jean was placed on a $500 bond for the retail theft charge and is expected to present her case in court on July 10.
As for the possession of controlled substance charge, the Carter sibling was placed on a $2,000 bond and is due in court on July 13. Despite partaking in the trademark substance abuse issues plaguing the Carters for years, Bobbie Jean has managed to stay away from the limelight, unlike her more famous siblings, making it almost impossible to know about her personal life.
She is the second child and first daughter of her parents — Robert Gene Carter and Jane Elizabeth [née Spaulding]. In addition to being Nick's younger sister, a member of the beloved boy band Backstreet Boys, Bobbie has three younger siblings — sister Leslie and twin siblings Angel and the late Aaron.
She also has two half-siblings, Virginia Marie, Taelyn Dobson, and Kaden Brent, from her late dad's other marriages. While Virginia came from Robert's first marriage, Taelyn and Kaden came from his third marriage.
So far, Bobbie has lost three family members — her dad, Leslie, and Aaron. Her father died at age 65 on May 16, 2017, and Leslie was found unconscious in Robert and his third wife, Ginger Elrod's New York home on January 31, 2012.
It was later confirmed that the then-25-year-old had died of a drug overdose. Leslie's death is similar to that of her brother Aaron, who was found unconscious in a bathtub in his California home last November. His death was ultimately ruled as an accidental drug overdose by the coroner.
Aaron Carter Signed Up For Rehab Before His Demise
Aaron appeared to be making changes to improve his lifestyle last year, voluntarily checking himself into an outpatient treatment center. Per a September 2022 report from The Blast, the late 34-year-old had spoken about his rehabilitation plans. In the words of the Kids' Choice Awards winner:
"It's an abstinence program, and I work with an individual counselor. I do group therapy, parenting classes, [and] domestic violence classes. I got myself certified in CPR, just a lot of different things. It's new being a parent, but it's actually become really fun and exciting and given me a new chapter of my life. It's been amazing."
After pointing out that this was his fifth attempt at rehab, the "I Want Candy" singer divulged that he decided to try again because he did not want to "smoke weed anymore, I don't need to." Touching on other concerns that he had relapsed, Aaron clarified that although he had not experienced such, he hoped rehab would help him deal with his triggers.
