Carter's admission to treatment comes before his custody hearing for his 9-month-old kid, whose care was earlier granted to the musician's mother by a judge. "It's an abstinence program and I work with an individual counselor," the 34-year-old singer told the Sun via video conference while out and about with fiancée Melanie Martin.

He added: "I do group therapy, parenting classes, domestic violence classes, I got myself certified in CPR, just a lot of different things. It's new being a parent but it's actually become really fun and exciting and given me a new chapter of my life. It's been amazing."

Carter also noted that this was his fifth time in rehabilitation, adding that he enrolled mainly to "help with the weed." "I don't want to smoke weed anymore, I don't need to," he said.

As regards other concerns that he has started using again, he shared that he has had no "relapses" but hopes to deal with his triggers while in rehab.

The singer shared that he did all this by his own choice and not because it was instructed by the Court or the Department of Children and Family Services.
