Wilson has first introduced to the movie "3 1⁄2 years ago," thanks to the scholarship program she actively supported at Sydney's Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP). Recalling how it happened, the media personality explained:

"Basically, one young person wins it, and then I mentor them for a year, and as part of it, they have to pitch a show and write the show and hopefully finish it by the end of the year."

"The Deb," written by Hannah Reilly, follows the adventures of three girls whose lives were changed when one of them was expelled from her high-class school in the city. The booted-out girl then struggles to adjust to the life of a farm girl in a reclusive town far from her usual comforts.
