The new feature is from the same team who created the 2022 breakout horror film, "Barbarian." The film will be directed by Drew Hancock, who wrote the script. Details on the story are reportedly being kept under wraps.

Cregger is producing the project with Raphael Margules and J.D. Lifshitz of BoulderLight Pictures. Vertigo's Roy Lee is also attached to the task.

New Line Cinema acquired "Companion" in a hotly contested bidding auction earlier this year. Cregger was originally going to make it his follow-up to "Barbarian," but instead, he pivoted on his following script, "Weapons." The latter is currently in its casting phase of pre-production at New Line. Despite the shift, Cregger and his team helped "Companion" get a studio home and a production green light.

Quad has been quietly building up an excellent resume and list of credits as of late, and now he will get an opportunity for a starring role in a new sci-fi thriller from a hotly-in-demand creative in Cregger. "Barbarian" did well in theaters and was well-liked by critics, scoring 93% with critics on Rotten Tomatoes. It should be interesting to see what Cregger and Hancock have in mind for Quaid's role in the upcoming sci-fi picture.

Quaid's next film, "Oppenheimer," arrives in theaters on July 21. Season 4 of "The Boys" will stream on Amazon Prime Video later. Meanwhile, Season 4 of "Star Trek: Lower Decks" hits Paramount+ later in the summer.
