Jesse Tyler Ferguson is opening up about being a high-profile wedding officiator on days when he's not on the screen!
The "Modern Family" star proved to be a pro at officiating weddings when he handled his costar, Sarah Hyland's wedding to Wells Adams last year. However, the Tony winner now shares what it felt like and lets fans know it wasn't as glamorous as it looked.
Jesse Tyler Ferguson Jokes About Being Under Pressure Officiating Sarah Hyland's Wedding
Making an appearance on "The Jennifer Hudson Show," the Broadway star discussed his role during his costar's wedding. He first pointed out to his host that he filled in for Ty Burrell, who was initially supposed to be the officiator. "He had a family emergency, so I was his understudy," Ferguson explained to Hudson.
However, the wedding was so close, leaving the actor little time to prepare for his duty. "It came down, like, ten days before the wedding. I did not have any notice," Ferguson lamented. "And you can't say 'no.' She already knew I was going to the wedding, so it'd be like, 'Oh, I'm busy that weekend. I couldn't get out of it."
Due to his love for the "Love Island USA" host, he took up the role. "I adore Sarah, so I was like, This means a lot that she's asking me to do this, but it's a lot of pressure."
The "Dinner's on Me" podcast host then confessed to feeling nervous about his role as it was unlike any other. He said, "It's not just like a regular wedding. It's a wedding that's, like, has paparazzi, helicopters flying above us. It's going to be in Vogue magazine. I'm like, Jeez, can I start with a low-profile one? No! Right to the top!"
Thankfully, the actor is now a professional at it. He joked, "I'm perfect now, so if anyone needs anything." A week after the wedding, the actor shared details of how he successfully officiated the wedding. The Primetime Emmy award nominee went all out in making sure he pulled off his role.
He explained that he didn't know what to do initially and had ideas after speaking with Burrell. The "Take Me Out" actor continued, highlighting that he was glad to officiate the wedding. "I was honored to do it," he expressed. "Very happy to understudy Ty Burrell."
According to the dad of two, he could pull off his role because he knew what the couple wanted. "I knew Sarah and Wells wanted it to be a funny, lighthearted ceremony," Ferguson stated. "They're not serious, but you also don't want to lean too heavily into the jokes because it's a big day."

Lovebirds Hyland and Adams were more than thankful as Ferguson went far and beyond to wed them. The couple expressed their gratitude to Ferguson while sending their best wishes to him when he turned 47 last year.
For the birthday tribute, the twosome uploaded a clip from their wedding, showing the process when the ABC star wedded them. The "Vampire Academy" actress looked ravishingly beautiful in a Vera Wang Haute custom-made light ivory silk ballgown with a bodice and French tulle sleeves accented by a high slit.
A flowing white veil was added to the lovely dress. Meanwhile, her handsome husband looked more attractive in a black tuxedo and tie. Ferguson, on the other hand, donned a navy blue suit and a white shirt.
He stood at the altar as he began the ceremony, telling jokes before going into the intricacies of marriage and how couples are meant to love and accommodate each other to have a successful one.
The officiator described to the couple how they'd live together. "Like the earth, should your love be a firm foundation that grows stronger through the seasons? Like a star, should your love be a constant source of light? Like a flame, should your union be lit with passion and love in your hearts?"
As part of his duty, the officiator helped the duo exchange their vows and even added a hand-fasting ritual to honor Hyland's Irish and Scottish heritage before pronouncing them, husband and wife.
Captioning the post in appreciation to Ferguson, they wrote, "To be married by @jessetyler was a dream and a privilege. Jesse, you have been such an amazing friend, mentor and an integral part of our lives. So happy birthday to the best officiant of all time! Our wedding truly would not have been as special without you 💕🧙🏼♂️."
