Fetty Wap will be behind bars for the next six years after being involved in a “large-scale narcotics” bust.
Fetty Wap Part Of A ‘Bi-Costal Drug Ring’
The “679” rapper went in front of a Long Island federal judge on Wednesday along with five others accused of driving to Long Island around six times in the spring of 2020 to buy kilograms of cocaine. That drug was then sold on New York and New Jersey streets.
Fetty Wap, whose real name is Willie Junior Maxwell II, was accused of personally dealing 25 kilograms of the drug in Jersey alone. In August, he pleaded to one count of conspiracy to possess and distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine.
He faced a minimum of five years and a maximum of 40 years behind bars for the crime, so he low-key kind of lucked out with getting six years.
The Prosecution Wanted More
Last week, federal Judge Joanna Seybert was recommending 7 to 9 years for the 31-year-old rapper. She claimed he was a “large-scale narcotics trafficker” who “continues to use his fame, sizable platform, and influence to glamorize the drug trade.”
They used his music as an example and specifically called out his hit “Trap Queen,” which Fetty had allegedly described in the past as being about an ex-girlfriend who helped him deal drugs in Paterson, NJ, where he grew up.
Meanwhile, Fetty’s lawyer Elizabeth Macedonia has noted that her client has taken “full responsibility for his crimes.” by pleading guilty and should be considered for the minimum sentence.
Why Is Fetty Wap Dealing Drugs?
Fetty had some hits, right? Like we aren’t crazy, he had some songs go viral, toured, and had a rising career. How does he go from that to this? According to his lawyer, his lifestyle was hard to maintain.
She told the courts that Fetty was motivated to provide for his family and friends. Let’s remember that the “My Way” rapper has eight kids under 18, and during the pandemic, he couldn’t tour, which is where he made most of his money.
Dealing was the answer. Fetty was arrested in October 2021 and bonded out on $500,000. Unfortunately, he violated his terms and ended up in prison until his court date.
Fetty Wap Threatened To Kill Someone
The wrong move to make when you’re on probation, duh! It wasn’t a regular empty threat, either. He flashed a gun on FaceTime and threatened a man only known as John Doe. He went on to call the man called him a “rat” and repeatedly risked his life verbally.
“Imma kills you and everybody you with,” was allegedly one of the threats, and according to an affidavit filed back in 2021, he repeatedly told the man, “I’m gonna kill you.” Fetty’s lawyer attempted to explain the situation when she shared with the Feds that John Doe had triggered her client.
Days earlier, he had posted a photo of Fetty Wap’s dead 4-year-old daughter and wrote, “I”m happy she’s dead because her father is a rat.” Given that he has been locked up since the threat, the rapper’s sentence will likely include the time already spent behind bars.
