Rapper Fetty Wap is behind bars after officers inside a New Jersey airport busted him for having an active warrant for his arrest.
The ‘Trap Queen’ rapper was traveling through the Newark Liberty airport on Friday when his ankle bracelet allegedly alerted police officers of his presence. At this point, it’s unclear if the device itself signaled the officers, or if he had trouble going through the metal detectors.
According to reports, officers approached the rapper and questioned him about the ankle monitor, and after further investigation realized he had a warrant out for his arrest. It should be noted, in many cases, when a person is wanted — it will be noted in a federal or state computer system that notifies officers who run a person’s information.
Fetty Wap Arrested, Wanted In New Jersey For Active Criminal Case
Unfortunately, Fetty Wap had an active case out of North Bergen, New Jersey for a case involving “public nuisance.” Fans photographed the rapper as he was being handcuffed and led away from the airport to be processed. At this point, the rapper will be able to bail out of jail, as soon as he is booked into the system. We are guessing this will have no bearing on the rapper’s ongoing case with the feds.
The rapper is currently wearing the ankle monitor is connected to another criminal case, where he is accused of being involved in a massive drug-dealing ring in the area. Federal prosecutors claim Fetty was involved with several associates in distributing more than 100 kilograms of cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, and crack cocaine across Long Island and New Jersey. Law enforcement claims the crew obtained the illegal narcotics on the West Coast and used USPS vehicles with secret compartments to smuggle them East.
Rapper Fetty Wap Accused Of Drug Dealing On A Massive Scale
During the investigation, authorities confiscated “$1.5 million in cash, 16 kilograms of cocaine, 2 kilograms of heroin, fentanyl pills, pistols, handguns, and a rifle.”
“The fact that we arrested a chart-topping rap artist and a corrections officer as part of the conspiracy illustrates just how vile the drug trade has become,” an FBI assistant director said at the time. The authorities released images of their confiscated time, which included multiple bricks of the drugs and stacks of cash.
Shockingly, if convicted, defendants, in this case, could face life in prison. At the time, Fetty’s attorney issued a statement saying, “We pray that this is all a big misunderstanding. He sees the judge today. Hoping he gets released so we can clear things up expeditiously.”
FBI Releases Images Of Confiscated Items In Fetty Wap Drug Operation Case
Fetty Wap has been performing while out on a $500,000 bond for the ongoing case and recently hit the stage for the Power 105.1’s Powerhouse 2021 concert at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
The rapper recently agreed to push back the case for several months while prosecutors work on a possible “plea agreement” in the case. It’s unclear if Fetty is working on a deal in the case, but if so, it most likely includes giving information to authorities about any connection to the drug ring.
