According to Variety, during the Cannes Film Festival press conference for "Killers of the Flower Moon," De Niro fearlessly voiced his disdain for former President Donald Trump. Drawing a parallel between Trump and the complex antagonist he portrays in Martin Scorsese's crime epic, the celebrated actor labeled Trump a "stupid" man, highlighting the striking resemblance between the two power players.

While De Niro admitted to grappling with his character, William Hale, he acknowledged the conflicting nature of his role. De Niro described a duality within Hale, stating, "I don't understand a lot about my character. Part of him is sincere. The other part, where he's betraying [the Osage people], there's a feeling of entitlement."

De Niro spoke on the alarming resurgence of white supremacy, emphasizing the importance of recognizing the banality of evil in our society. The actor alluded to the awakening sparked by George Floyd's tragic death and the subsequent heightened awareness of systemic racism. "We became a lot more aware [of that dichotomy] after George Floyd with systemic racism."

He clarified his sentiments without mentioning Trump's name, saying, "We all know who I'm going to talk about. but I'm not going to say the name." De Niro continued, "That guy is stupid. Imagine if you're smart. Even Hale was smart in many ways."

The Cannes Film Festival outing comes approximately two weeks after the 79-year-old publicly shared the joyous news of his seventh child's arrival with ET Canada. He later confirmed the birth of his daughter, Gia Virginia Chen-De Niro, on April 6 to Gayle King on CBS Mornings.

This recent addition to De Niro's family joins his six other children, including Drena and Raphael from his first marriage to Diahnne Abbott, Aaron, and Julian from his previous relationship with Toukie Smith, and Elliot and Helen from his former marriage with Grace Hightower.

During an interview with Extra, Kim Cattrall, De Niro's co-star in the film "About My Father," shared insights into the couple's bond, describing it as "sweet." Cattrall couldn't help but praise Chen's beauty, stating, "His significant other, Tiffany, is such a beautiful woman, I'm happy for both of them," she added.
