Disney-Pixar's "Soul" tugged at viewers' heartstrings and is considered one of the most "underrated" films by Disney fans.
The 2020 film, which stars Jamie Foxx as Joe and Tina Fay as 22, does not have much representation within the theme parks or aboard Disney Cruise Line; however, that is all about to change as Disney just announced a new "Soul"-inspired bar and lounge is coming to Disney Cruise Line.
The Soul Cat Lounge
The Soul Cat Lounge will be a new "Soul"-inspired lounge aboard the Disney Magic, and will be designed based on Joe Gardner's, the main character of the Pixar film, favorite music spot, the Half Note Lounge.
Per Disney, "The heartfelt story of 'Soul' inspired the brand-new Soul Cat Lounge designed to look like Joe Gardner's favorite music spot from the film, the Half Note Lounge."
The New York jazz club-inspired bar will be located on deck three near Rapunzel's Royal Table restaurant and will "instantly transport guests to a classic New York jazz club appointed with decorative details like brick walls, wood accents and plenty of rich leather seating around a stage set for live music so that guests can grab their partner and head to the dance floor for a swinging good time each evening," per Disney.
Disney also reported that "The Soul Cat Lounge is adorned with custom artwork from Pixar featuring nods to the film, including record labels, concert posters, and portraits of jazz legend Dorothea Williams and her bandmates. Thoughtful 'Soul'-inspired details are subtly layered throughout the design, including record players, instruments, and Joe's hat."
What Will Be Offered?
When visiting the Soul Cat Lounge, Guests can dine like royalty and enhance their experience with table-side Manhattans and martinis. They can also "choose from a selection of native brews and cocktails made with New York spirits," per Disney.
For those not of drinking age or who prefer something non-alcoholic, there will also be a selection of themed mocktails, coffees, and sodas. "A fun collection of mocktails, specialty coffees, and sodas are also on the menu. In addition to new drink options, guests can take a bite of Little Italy with an order of zeppoles, the classic Italian pastry similar to a fried doughnut, while enjoying the live music," their report continues.
The Disney Magic is currently sailing out of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Beginning May 24, the ship will return to Miami, Florida, and set sail for a series of summer cruises, heading to The Bahamas and the Caribbean. It will also offer a selection of "Silver Anniversary at Sea" celebration cruises in honor of Disney Cruise Line's 25th anniversary.
Then, beginning this fall, Disney Magic will hold its inaugural season sailing out of San Diego, California.
"Soul" (2020)
"Soul" stars Jamie Foxx as Joe Gardner, Tina Fay as 22, Graham Norton as Moonwind, Rachel House as Terry, and others.
Disney describes the movie as:
What is it that makes you...YOU? Pixar Animation Studios’ all-new feature film SOUL introduces Joe Gardner (voice of Jamie Foxx) – a middle-school band teacher who gets the chance of a lifetime to play at the best jazz club in town. But one small misstep takes him from the streets of New York City to The Great Before – a fantastical place where new souls get their personalities, quirks and interests before they go to Earth. Determined to return to his life, Joe teams up with a precocious soul, 22 (voice of Tina Fey), who has never understood the appeal of the human experience. As Joe desperately tries to show 22 what’s great about living, he may just discover the answers to some of life’s most important questions. Directed by Academy Award® winner Pete Docter (“Inside Out,” “Up”), co-directed by Kemp Powers (“One Night in Miami”), written by Kemp Powers & Mike Jones, and produced by Academy Award nominee Dana Murray (Pixar short “Lou”), SOUL also stars the voice talents of Phylicia Rashad, Questlove and Daveed Diggs. It features original jazz music by globally renowned musician Jon Batiste, and Oscar® winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (“The Social Network”), from Nine Inch Nails, composed an original score that drifts between the real and soul worlds.
"Soul" is currently streaming on Disney+.
