It is May 4 again, which Star Wars fans know as Star Wars Day, in a play on the iconic phrase May the Force Be With You!

Today, that phrase has become May The Fourth Be With You as fans and previous cast members celebrate the franchise in a galaxy far, far away.

During the 2023 Star Wars Celebration event held last month, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy revealed several new "Star Wars" movies in the works. Here's a quick look at what movies are currently in development!

The movie that fans are most excited about is the new "Star Wars" movie taking place fifteen years after the events of 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker," which just so happens to be the last "Star Wars" movie that was shown in theaters. Actress Daisy Ridley will be reprising her role as Rey from the sequel trilogy and it's rumored that John Boyega might even reprise his role as Finn, even though he previously said that he was "good off it" in August 2022.

The movie will be directed by “Ms. Marvel” filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and will be set in a Jedi Academy, with Master Rey trying to rebuild the Jedi Order. The movie was originally supposed to be written by “Lost” creator Damon Lindelof and “The Strain” writer Justin Britt-Gibson had been tapped to write the script, but they have since been "asked to leave" the project only days after turning in their completed script.

“Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight will now be finishing up the script, although it's unclear how much of Lindelof's original script he may end up using.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly last month, Kathleen Kennedy teased the plot of the movie. “As we move into the future space — this story is about 15 years outside of The Rise of Skywalker — obviously we realized post-war, post–First Order rise of the New Jedi Order, we left episode 9 with Rey making a commitment to Luke Skywalker that she would rebuild the Jedi Order,” Kennedy said.

“And so here we are — we're ready to do that. And it took a lot of discussion because obviously we've been developing stories in different spaces, and television has been a big focus of our attention right now,” she continued. “But there's still so much interest in what happens after The Rise of Skywalker. So we're excited to be doing that.”

She also teased the possibility that more sequel characters will make an appearance in the film, as well as confirmed that the signature text crawl would return for all "Star Wars" movies - not just movies related to the Skywalker Saga. That means that the movie helmed by director James Mangold will also reportedly feature a text crawl.

The “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" filmmaker has described his project as a “Biblical epic” that would give fans a look at the origin story of the Force. It will be set about 25,000 years before even the prequel trilogy.

“When I first started talking to Kathy about doing one of these pictures, what occurred to me was thinking about what kind of genre of movie within Star Wars I wanted to do,” he said via The Hollywood Reporter. “And I thought about a Biblical epic, like a Ten Commandments, about the dawning of the Force. Where did the Force come from, when did we discover it, when did we learn how to use it?”

Creative boss Dave Filoni will also be directing a new movie within the New Republic era to tie together the events set in “The Mandalorian” timeline. After working on animated shows like “Rebels” and “The Clone Wars” for so many years, Filoni told audiences, “I’m just excited to make a movie!” after appearing at Star Wars Celebration.

Kathleen Kennedy hinted that the movie will have characters from many of Filoni's works and not just the Disney+ series that he has been creating with Jon Favreau. “I hesitate to say it's a big meetup from just those because Dave has been developing Star Wars storytelling inside Clone Wars and Rebels and so much of the work he has done for 20 years,” Kennedy admitted. “So it will be little bits of all of that. There are a lot of sources he's drawing from to see where we're going.”

Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly on their Star Wars podcast, Dagobah Dispatch, to talk about Filoni's movie, which is set after the events of "Return of the Jedi."

When asked if the characters featured in his new movie will be similar to an Avengers-style meet-up, Filoni replied, "We're in the right area code," adding, "We are definitely in the right space. I think it's going to be a clamoring of characters saying, 'How do I get in this picture?' And that's what Jon and I have been figuring out."

"As we are getting deeper and deeper into this, you start to have to really map things out and figure out what that story is, and then have those characters fulfill what their growth cycle is and what their mythic hero's journey is," Favreau added. "Those things have to fit together well. Otherwise, it won't feel like Star Wars."

No release dates for any of the three movies have yet to be announced; however, an untitled Star Wars movie is scheduled for December 2025 on the Disney release calendar. Many expect that it will be Ridley's Star Wars film, which is expected to start production first.
